Hi, my husband is an Active Duty Member of the United States Marine Corp. I wanted to know what proof he can provide of his employment status?

Would his earnings statements for the last 12 months, a photocopy of his military I.D (front and back), his personal contract information sheet (printed of his Marine On-line account), and military status report (retrieved from the department of defense manpower data center), be enough to prove his Active Duty status??

OR

Will he still need a formal letter written by his officer or something to state that he is enlisted blah blah...

You don't need anything like that. I know it says it on the USCIS page that has the form and instructions on it but it's not needed, it's not actually in the form instructions (unless they've changed them recently in which case can you show me where?).

I simply included the previous 3 years IRS transcripts. You only need the most recent years transcript/return but I included all three.

Random but my husband is a former US Marine and still has his ID. I went to take a photo of it once to show my family and he told me it's NEVER allowed to be copied or its likeness taken.. maybe it's changed since him (4 years) but just be careful there.. I know it's government stuff you're doing but I'd still be wary. I would think the "military status report" would be sufficient if you want to include proof of employment but like i said, pretty confident it's not mentioned in the forms actual instructions (didn't used to be anyway).

Oh Thank you for your reply ... Yes I just did an online search to double check the photocopying issues, and you are right it's illegal to copy, photograph etc any government issue I.D's. I didn't know that, NOR did my husband! He said he's asked for photocopies of it all the time. We will just submit the earning statements and the military status report. I'm sure that'll be fine. This is such a stressful procedure! I'll be glad to get done with all this!

It says the same on my birth certificate and marriage certificate "do not copy" but I of course did it anyway. It's not an official copy, it's just to show I have it so I'm not worried about that. There's something about military ID that makes me especially cautious. I mean that gives him access to "secret" places (could be I'm just a bit nervous :P). You said he's asked for copies. If I (had to) make copies then I'd write over any barcodes to make sure it couldn't be duplicated (if that's even possible :S).

Anywho yes it's a very stressful process! There's an AOS thread in my signature that has document lists in it if that helps you any. Good luck!
