I just realized that I still have my maiden name in my passport....do I need to change it to fly to morocco?? I have researched this, and see that people said you can travel like this, but need your marriage certificate....well my original marriage certificate is currently at the NVC....has anyone traveled using their maiden name even though I changed to my married name? Will I have problems getting through customs in morocco? Will customs question why I have a different last name from my husband when they ask me who I am seeing in Morocco? I didn't know where else to post this, so I hope it is ok that I posted here....

NO MORE IMMIGRATION!!????

You should not need to, simply book airline tickets in the passport name, carry copy of a marriage cert showing how name changed from passport name to green-card name.

My wife has traveled internationally without any problems, her passport still shows maiden name even after she renewed it last summer.

She said her certificate is at the NVC. Kind of hard to travel with her certificate when it is in the hands of the government. Good question Tany. I need to know too!!

Yep, US citizen traveling.

Again simply travel under maiden name, book tickets in maiden name, and any visas should be applied for using maiden name.

You having a last name different from your husband won't be an issue because it is not customary there for women to take their husband's name so you will probably be fine.

I found myself in the same dilema, my husband is here though- I changed my bank name, debit card, driver license, etc. I dont belive you will have any problems in Morocco, entry or departure.

But , here in the US- if you have not changed anything at all,(bank name, debit card, driver license, etc) even though you are married.YOU will have no problem using your maiden name passport.

Now, bc I changed all the above mentioned documents, I need to update my passport. Now in the US I am registered as my married name. But if you have NOT changed anything at all, you may travel with your maiden name passport.

Erase the image on how you thought your life would turn out- and start living the life you are living!!

This is why I still carry my expired DL with me that has my former name and well as the changed name on a paper attached. Not for traveling so much but I do have a couple credit cards that I haven't bothered changing yet. I haven't changed my passport either. I know that's not much help but maybe take your old DL with you when you go?

Take a copy with you.

OT - why did you send your original marriage cert. with your app? A copy would've worked.

NVC requires original documents, not the USCIS...I just sent USCIS copies....

Good question I am in the same boat! I was just going to renew mine for the same reason. Would save me alittle just for mine, since would be applying for my husbands U.S. passport and our daughters all at once! Fees just went up this past July, so now it is $110+shipping for a renewal. Would be nice if I could still travel on mine just once more! Are you going to use yours with the maiden name?

In the ARAB culture, women DO NOT change their family names. So officials in Morocco do not expect that a wife will have the same family name as her husband. The Arabs, as a historically tribal culture, take great pride in their family heritage, and changing ones family name to another is a big NO NO (for an Arab woman).

If you have legally changed your last name, that is what should be listed on the passport. You could run into problems with immigration folks - especially now that they have made a lot of changes to laws regarding names on airline tickets. If you wanted to be 100% safe - get an expedited new passport. Otherwise go with one of the other suggestions, of carrying a marriage cert, etc.
