Lets make Afganistan the 51st state. Then instead of deporting any illegal aliens we can move them to afganistan and give them citizenship. We can pay them federal minimum wage to build a wall

across the afganistan/ pakistan border. Then Al queda won't be able to get in or out. We could have a state income tax of 50% or so to help recoup the cost of building the wall. We give each new citizen 60 acres, a couple of mules and a rifle. The Afganies don't have enough sense to appreciate what we are doing for them. Let's give the opportunity to someone who has a demonstrated willingness to do what ever it takes to be a part of the US. After we make them a state, Our soldiers could come home and guard our borders against future incursions of illegal aliens.

The new citizens of the 51st state could form their own well regulated militia, we wouldn't have to pay em a dime for fighting.

kill two birds with one stone, get rid of the illegals, bring our soldiers home,

Normaly it's a good idea to settle a country you have conquered with your own people, but Afganistan is so crappy we don't realy want to be there. If we give it to the illegals we don't have to worry about Al Queada moving back in. Problem solved

Perhaps you could run for governor of the new state. They will need your leadership.

i know of someone who'd be better, he's got a pakistani flag on his profile. :hehe:

I say the USA should buy ALL the opium output of Afghanistan at 3 times what the Taliban pays for it, sell some of it to National Healthcare systems giving us a worldwide monopoly on Opiates for medical purposes and sink the rest in the Pacific ocean denying 90% of illegal opiates to drug dealers.

The Afghan farmers would be our friend and would run out the Taliban all by themselves. They'd be buying blue jeans and Rock n'Roll CDs and may even agree to educate women. We would control 90% of the world's supply of Opiates, put the crunch on drug dealers and pay for the whole thing by jacking up the price of medicinal opiates to Canada and the EU

Instead we spend billons of OUR dollars to try and burn out the poppy fields, making the people our enemy and the Taliban their friends. And turning over ALL the opiates to the Taliban to fund them buying bullets to kill our children and brothers and sisters in the military. Brilliant! Who thinks of this sh*t?

I thought this post was still born, but you guys are encouraging me. The more I think about it, the better the idea seems. It's just the kind of compromise that we could pull off now with the Dems and Republicans sharing power. It's got something for everybody. The librals want to give citizenship to the illegals and pull the troops out of Afganistan. That's accomplished with this plan. The conservatives want to get rid of the illegals and handing out guns is bound to make conservatives happy (we would make gun ownership mandatory) The conservatives like the high wall idea.

The Dems would like the high taxes. We could throw in some health care. The illegals would like getting citizenship and free land. The Afgannys would get rid of their corrupt goverment. We could send some missionaries to teach them true religion. Im sure someone on the right would volunteer. Can anyone think of anything that would piss off Bin laden more than turning Afganistan into one of the United States.

He would have to come out of hiding and lead the charge himself.

Everybody wins except Bin Laden

I didn't miss it, but why would they? More money in Opium for them and us. Who are we going to sell grapes to?

There is a follow on story I can not seem to find yet. Some of the farmers that went big on grapes and other produce, in a report I saw less than 30 days ago, are making five to ten times what they did growing opium poppies.

Hagan also met with U.S. officials trying to help Afghani farmers transition from growing poppies used to make heroin to other crops. She wants to get North Carolina State University and North Carolina A&T University involved in the effort.

"In years past Afghanis have some of the best fruits and nuts and dates and grapes and raisins. It's certainly something that could be a viable market for that country," Hagan said. "They have the best raisins I have tasted in my entire life."

Either those are really good grapes or my idea would be a lot cheaper than I thought.

It may be.

Opium prices have almost doubled after production in Afghanistan last year was halved by blight.

Government officials fear more farmers will turn to the crop in the absence of profitable alternatives.

Opium crops were cut by an estimated 48% in 2010 by blight.

Farm-gate prices at times reached $US169 or more per kg of dry opium in 2010 compared with $US64 per kg in 2009.

Output for 2010 is estimated at around 3900 tonnes, the lowest since 2003, compared with 6900 tonnes in 2009.

Even so, opium last year accounted for 5% of gross domestic product, up from 4% in 2009.

Afghanistan is the producer of about 90% of the world's opium. Most of it is exported and helps fund the Taliban. According to the United Nations, the Taliban derives $US100 - $US400 million per year in levies on drug production and trafficking.

If you don't include the missionaries, they'll derail the whole project. They could teach the Afgannys how to make wine with those grapes everyone else is pushing for.

It would probably be advisable to appropriate a small chunk of Pakistan to the south for direct access to the arabian sea. That would make it a lot easier to ship out

the wine and grapes and raisins
