Respond to an RFE or wait for interview?

I received an RFE for I-693 about a month ago. I just got another copy of the medical and was about to mail it when I received my interview letter.

I thought that everything was "on hold" while they were waiting for an RFE, why did I receive this letter? Also, should I mail the response to the RFE or take it to the interview?

What does the RFE say? Do they give you a deadline to return? Is it after interview date?

If before interview, then send them the RFE and I-693. If after interview date, then bring the I-693 to the interview.

Ask the doctor for a copy of all the forms. I thought it was pretty standard that they did this - I know mine did.

I have 83 days from when the letter was mailed, 11/30/10. So, I'm thinking I'll mail it and yes, bring a copy at the interview... It's just so bizarre that I got an RFE and THEN an interview letter, without responding to the RFE.

That seems a little weird to me too. However, I just received my interview letter today and under the heading YOU MUST BRING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WITH YOU, number two says A completed medical examination (Form I-693) and vaccination supplement in a sealed envelope (unless already submitted). Sooooooo, I am assuming your situation is not too uncommon at all since it's part of the verbiage on the form letter.

Remember that a lot of these steps are automated - so if the IO is going through a computer program checking yes or no boxes about what was received, the RFE might be automatically generated from that. This is just my theory....

My interview letter says to bring an I-693 for the interview, but the RFE says to mail it and NOT bring it at the interview.

when is the interview date? before or after the deadline to submit the missing evidence in reply to the RFE letter?

If the interview is at an earlier date, I'd bring the I-693 with me to the interview and ask the interviewer. They may well tell you to give it to them and they will add it to your file.

On the other hand, if the RFE deadline is before your interview, then mail it.

Thank you! I can't wait... but at the same time, I'm a nervous wreck. My husband isn't sure I'm going to be able to make it to the USCIS office with my sanity intact.

We stayed in the hotel room down the street from the USCIS office and I barely slept the night before. Thought I was going to throw up the entire time we were waiting to be called and I swear I was shaking while waking down the hall to the office.

Of course the boy was cool as a cucumber!

Looking back, it really was nothing. Trust in your relationship!

Oh yes! I scouted us a nice hotel near the USCIS office. About a minute walk! There is no way in heck we're driving 2 hours from our house to there in the morning, in the traffic, in January... with me in panic mode. Maybe if we had a portable bathroom in our car!

Our household is a little crazy already. Since we received the letter, I keep randomly, and very intensely, asking him random question... "hey honey?" "yes sugar plum"... "WHAT COLOR IS OUR BATHROOM RUG?!"

But honestly, I'm putting things together, pictures, bills with both our names, income taxes. As soon as we get my SSN, we'll go add my name to his bank account.
