Hi all, let me introduce myself. My name is Nathen and I am a new member here at Visa Journey. I have been following this forum for the last couple weeks. My fiancee is scheduled for a K1 interview on Jan 12 2011 at 9:30AM. We have filled out all the required forms and practices sample questions. I have form I864 and form I864A(sponsor) filled out and ready. I also have form I134 (myself only) in case the consulate in Vietnam ask for it. My questions are what form do Vietnam consulate ask for in term of affidavit of support because most people said they ask for I134 but I remember packet 3 that my fiancee got said I864. I don't know which one is the correct one. also if in deed they do ask for for I134 do I have to do another one for my sponsor (my sister) since my income is a little bit short or can I use form I864A that I already have filled out. Thanks in advance and I will keep everyone update on the outcome of the interview.

BTW any advice on what we should do to prepare for the interview? thanks again!!!

I-864 is for spouse visas like CR-1, it is required for green-cards. K-1 uses I-134, NOT I-864, the consulate may have mailed out a spouse visa Packet 3 by mistake, it happens.

You the petitioner are required to provide an I-134, and you can use a joint sponsor who will also provide an I-134, not an I-864 or an I-864A

Later when a K-1 adjusts status in the USA you will provide an I-864, and a Joint sponsor also provides an I-864. I-864A is used only by a member of a sponsor's household to add income to that of the sponsor.

Moving this to consulate forum

What do Vietnam Consulate requires I130 or I864? I am getting conflicting story. thanks

I-134. They probably sent the wrong instruction packet. Here's a link to the packet 3 instructions for a K visa at the consulate in Ho Chi Minh City.

Here's a link to the packet 4 instructions:

Both specifically say to submit an I-134.

You cannot use the I-864 and I-864A to combine income in order to qualify as a sponsor for a K visa in HCMC. The consulate in HCMC also rarely accepts joint sponsors for K visas. Is your income alone enough to qualify?

Thanks for the links. My income for year 2010 is more than enough but my 2009 and 2008 is couple thousand dollars short. 2010 tax return is not available for file at the moment since it is only December.
