Basically, I'm wondering if my husband will be able to apply for student loans as an LPR. I'm not sure if it falls under the category of US govt welfare. My guess is no it doesn't, but student grants are. Any information on this please?

A loan implies paying back! So YES can apply for student loans, it is NOT welfare, and is NOT a means tested benefit. Also grants tend to not fall under means tested benefits check with the financial aid department of the college.

Note a LPR can even file for a means-tested benefit, however the sponsor (person who filed I-864) can be sued by the government to repay this.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Means tested benefit--that's the phrase I couldn't think of! :) Okay, I know it sounds like a crazy question and I was pretty sure of the answer, but had to double check! Thanks.

Awesome, thanks for your insight. I'm not too sure if he can even get grants because it's for flight training school. I'm not sure the government gives grants to specialized career training, or that we would even be financially eligible. But we'll see. That would be great! :)

Do you have any idea what happen if a person who has a student loan and in the process of removal of condition? Can they denied the petition if they don't get convinced or satisfied with the evidences that were submitted?
