I am really starting to consider NOT using a lawyer. Since we are going to be going the CR-1 route, I am not really sure what would be so complicated that we can't do it ourselves. Seems like all the instructions are right here and that many others are doing it, so why not? I have talked to 3 of them now(lawyers), am out of $200 because of it, and everyone of them seemed to be uninformed or just plain crazy in one way or another.

I did wind up not using a lawyer. I hired a guy who is sort of an immigration consultant just to double check everything and make sure I don't miss anything. He will help us throughout the entire process, short of legal advice, and his fees were about 1/4 of the cheapest of the 4 attorneys I spoke with. He actually seems to know more about the fiancee/spouse Visa process than any of the lawyers did. I hope I made the right decision, we shall see.
