jury duty

my hubby has just informed me i have been chosen to attend jury duty on 11 jan 2011 how can this be? Im not even a US citizen nor am i in america

If you are not a citizen you cannot be on a jury. Lots of people get called when not citizens as their names come up on the databases used. The DMV is one commonly used by lots of States. I was called twice when a LPR. Just get hubby to inform then you are not a US citizen.

Depending on your state you may actually have to show up on the date of the Jury Summons and inform the judge that you are not a US Citizen...yet. Some states allow you to write or call in the information. If your letter does not state otherwise, SHOW UP on the date mentioned or an arrest warrant can be issued. Most of the time you can call the Clerk of the Court and he/she can resolve it. I got a summons for next week but i will be in Bogota for my wife's interview so I just called and emailed over her appointment letter and I was excused.

erm...so thinking, if the NJ judge will not accept the fact that i am not a US citizen or currently living in the USA...should i get onto USCIS and tell them to pull their finger out and rush my application to NVC and then i can be in america...with my husband and family...for the first week in january?? lol

if they insist...i also insist this is what they do for me...i will even sit on jury service for the next two months if it helps....lol

id definitely check with uscis. you could use the vwp to get there BUT if you have ever overstayed 180 days or more and been out of status, youre subject to the bar, which kicks in upon departure. be interesting to hear the solution for that and if they'd waive an overstay bar.

ask him, "Judge, you have the legal right to make me a citizen at this moment, I will accept that burden of Citizenship for jury duty." In all honesty just show your passport and greencard. but, if he does then you are a miracle...take the paper and run.

Expect to wait approximately 9 months from the 24th of Sept. before you get to come to the USA

5 months for processing the USCIS I-130

3 to 4 months of the NVC and embassy to process your VISA and to schedule an interview.

I can't even count how many of these jury duty notes I and my wife have thrown in the trash, without ever hearing back from them. The US Postal Service is so darn unreliable.
