My wife (permanent resident) will travel internationally with our infant son this weekend. Our son has a U.S. passport. Are we supposed to sign his U.S. passport. If so, how do we do it and who should sign it?

Thanks,

John

Just to add in case it affects who should sign, I (the father) am a USC but will not be traveling with them.

We were told at the embassy when we got our kids passports to have the USC (father) sign.

My husband signed his own name, then in brackets (father). We've only used the passports when travelling together though.

Since your LPR wife is travelling by herself, maybe a letter stating you know she is taking the kids, where and for how long, with contact details for you would be a good idea. Just in case she gets questioned.

Just to answer my own question

Q:My child is too young to sign his/her own passport. How do I sign my child's passport?a:In the space provided for the signature, the mother or father must print the child's name and sign their own name. Then, in parenthesis by the parent's name, write the word (mother) or (father) so we know who signed for the child.
