someday people will wake up and realize that the local and state governments have the responsibility to take care of incidents like this and the federal government only steps in when it's a large scale disaster that neither the local or state government can handle. and such only occurs once the state government asks for that to happen. there's plenty of fault, sure, but rather than using katrina as a way to bash bush yet once again, do try to stay off the partisan politics and spread the blame where it belongs, primarily on the state and local governments. i say the state and local governments as all of those buses that just sat there - they could have used those to evacuate people but instead they sat on their hands and let matters go from bad to worse and then called the federal government. then afterward they criticized the federal government for the mess that their inaction helped create.

During a presidential videoconference briefing on August 28, 2005 Michael Brown issued "stark warnings":

"We're going to need everything that we can possibly muster, not only in this state and in the region, but the nation, to respond to this event," said Brown.

Brown told colleagues on the tape that one of his top concerns was whether evacuees who went to New Orleans' Superdome would be safe and have adequate medical care.

"I don't know whether the roof is designed to ... withstand a Category 5 hurricane," he said.

Brown also wanted to know whether there were enough federal medical teams in place to treat evacuees in the Superdome.

Bush appeared on the tape sitting at a table in a small room at his Crawford, Texas, ranch. He didn't ask any questions. He told state officials that the federal government was prepared to handle the storm and its aftermath.

"I want to assure the folks at the state level that we are fully prepared to not only help you during the storm, but we will move in whatever resources and assets we have at our disposal after the storm," he said.

The final presidential briefing before Katrina made landfall in New Orleans shows a very concerned Brown:

Video footage of the Aug. 28 briefing, the final one before Katrina struck, showed an intense Brown voicing concerns from the government's disaster operation center and imploring colleagues to do whatever was necessary to help victims.

"We're going to need everything that we can possibly muster, not only in this state and in the region, but the nation, to respond to this event," Brown warned. He called the storm "a bad one, a big one" and implored federal agencies to cut through red tape to help people, bending rules if necessary.

Unfortunately this country stinks when it comes to racism, there are plenty of two faced people of any race, I just try to judge each person as they are....I think its quite easy to spot those 'I'm not racist at all but..." people, so I just stay clear!
