Hi VJ members. I asked about scheduling flights earlier this month on determining if a loved one from Morocco could land at JFK, go through baggage claim and their POE interview ( arriving at 03:45 pm) and make a conecting flight at 6:30 pm. Flight attendent with Delta said yes, she saw no problem him clearing interview....making a connecting flight at 6:30 pm.

As some of you know, today my husband is traveling home to the states and from tracking his flight....they had a 2 1/2 hr delay in leaving Mohammed V airport in casablanca. His arrival should have been 3:45 pm and it is scheduled estimated runway time 6:12 pm. He would have missed his connecting flight, probably at his expense. I'm glad we decided to opt for him staying overnight in NYC to avoid chancing this.

Just wanted to share with everyone delays do happen. Plan your trips wisely.

Being held up in customs/immigration is not considered negligence on the passenger so he would have been put on the next flight available to reach his final destination at no cost to him. Depending on the reason for the delay in Morocco the airline may have had to put him up in a motel for a night at their expense (aircraft maintenance is often the cause of this). Weather delays as well as ATC delays are not airline faults so they usually will not flip the bill for a room for these reasons. I travel weekly as part of my job so I am well schooled in airlines. You probably did the most relaxing thing for him since he will be able to get a night's rest before joining you.

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

I scheduled 6 hrs between my flights via Atlanta when I flew in and I am glad I did. I had no delays and smooth sailing through immigration and the k-1 paperwork bit but I needed every second of that time. It left me with about 30 mins wait at the gate before boarding which was just enough time tonot feel rushed. I would recommend to save the stress to do a longer layover as if I had done a 4 hour layover I would have been stressing about missing my flight and haivng to wait on standby etc.

I see that there was flooding in Casablanca and that is the reason for the flight delays.

The last time I flew in to JFK on RAM, the plane rode around the airport for an hour and 1/2 waiting for clearance to dock. I mean, it toured the whole damn airport, cargo areas and all. I don't think RAM is a high priority airline at Terminal 1 in JFK, this is always something to take into consideration when timing stuff. You did the right thing, SweetHomeAlabama..
