Does anyone know any tips any idea on how to write either an email or what to say to your state or city representative? I want to contact my state representative and Im not sure what to say or how to write them a letter to see if the can help me.

If anyone who have written a letter before to his/her representative if you have an example please add it to this messege, any ideas on what to put in the letter. VJP please help me out.

THanks

Andres

I wouldn't necessarily write a letter if what you want to know is the status of your case. Of course if there is something complicated or unusual and you need to provide more detail, a straight-to-the-point factual letter is probably the best way to go. That said, seeing your NOA1 date of late June pretty much means that you won't get any help based on the lack of help they have provided for those of us who have been waiting for 5+ months with zero information or movement on our cases.

In any event, this is the way to do it (and keep in mind that there are no guarantees that they can really get straight answers or do anything, but sometimes having a contact who will allow you to voice your concerns and will TRY to get information will help you feel a little bit better.

Generally, emails and written letters to senators and congressman will generate a response, a few months later, thanking you for your support of their stance on immigration reform.

For more immediate assistance, follow these steps:

1) Find your senator or congressman’s website.

2) Go to the section for Constituent Services.

3) Download the privacy form.

4) Fill out all the relevant case information.

5) FAX it to their office.

6) Call to follow up. Find out the name of the specific person assigned to your case and get their direct phone number.

If your senator doesn’t have a privacy form on the website, call them directly.

When you write to, or call your congressman's office you need a valid reason for their help. Otherwise, there is nothing they can do for you. Unless you are past a posted date, such as the dates given on the the USCIS website (NOA1 processing dates), or you sent in an RFE and not heard back within 60 days, or AP or something like that, you are just wasting your time.

Some congressman are more helpful then others it seems. My congressman was helpful after my app went past the dates posted on the USCIS website. Unfortunatly, you applied at a bad time and things are just taking longer. Hang in there, it will happen sooner then you think.

I thought I might update you all on my contact with my elected officials.

I wrote to Senators Durban and Obama. Senator Durban got back with me within a few days. More on that later. Senator Oboma FINALLY sent me a letter a month later with a Privacy Form which I mailed back that day. I have heard nothing back from him. I called my congressman LaHood. I was politely told that since the CSC web site said they were working on March 6 petitions and mine is March 14 they will not do anything. She (the immigration aid) said something about it wouldn't be fair to have me jump in line before others!!! Duh!! I told her that others LONG after mine are being approved and I am left behind. She was unsimpathetic and refused to help.

Senator Durban put me with his aid Mr Sullivan. VERY nice man. I have been in contact with him for over 6 weeks now. He has tried to help me but he just gets stonewalled at every turn. Last week he said that he and his boss would contact the CSC director directly about mine and other peoples cases here in Illinois. They basically told him that they take their orders from Washington and they will not alter their practices. The last thing I heard was on monday. He said he was going to contact the main office in Washington and try to get some answers. I am not very hopeful. Bottom line here. The USCIS thinks they are above all accountability. They are going to do what they damn well please.

Man, they need to have contracted Visa adjudication companies. Maybe we can start one and compete with USCIS for business. Then the monopoly would be over and they would have to do things a little better with a little accountability . kind of like airport security. First it was government run and handed over to private (I think).
