Hey guys,

I havent posted in awhile but we are currently with the NVC process of paying AOS bill/ IV bill which is going very fast and smooth. I have a question on something farther in the process. Once the beneficiary comes to the US, how soon are they able to start working? When are they supplied an SSN?

The green card arrives a few weeks after entry. You will likely need to wait a few weeks before applying for the SSN as well. Some people seem to get them and others dont even when they checked the box.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Checked the box? Is that somewhere on a form I haven't seen or had to fill out yet?

I think Inky was referring to form DS-230, question 43a. "Do you want the Social Security Administration to assign you a SSN and issue a card?"

I believe its jammed somewhere on the files you would send to NVC for the interview thats coming up. It was a really small section that had a tiny check box that said "I do wish to have an SSN generated for me, I do not wish to have an ssn generated for me." But like I said sometimes they dont even generate one when you ask them too!

It shouldnt take you too long to get the SSN tho and should be able to work soon after you get there.
