I-130 package questions

In the I-130 checklist on this site it states that a "copy" of various papers should be enclosed in the I-130 package, such as:

court certified copies of the petitioner's and/or intending immigrant's divorce documents

My question is: for my wife that lives in Ukraine, I have obtained a translation of the divorce certificate with a note from the translation agency attached. Since she also had name changes, I have obtained translations of the "archive extracts" showing old and new names. These copies also bear note from the translation agency. Are these kind of copies sufficient or something else bearing some kind of official seal of the Ukrainian court is required?

Also, for my US divorce decree, do I have to obtain some kind of court certified copy or can I simply make copy of my "gold sealed" original decree?

translations by themselves are not sufficient... you need the photocopy of the actual document and attach the translation to it.

A regular photocopy of your "sealed" decree is sufficient.. (FWIW, you do not have the original as the actual original remains on file with the courts)

Right, thanks for that. The photocopy of the Ukrainian court issued decree is also attached. Thank you, that eases up my tension!

USCIS requires the following

Any foreign language document must be accompanied by a full English translation that the translator has certified as complete and correct, and by the translator's certification that he or she is competent to translate the foreign language into English.

So for your situation include copies of

1. your wife's Ukrainian original divorce decree

2. the translated version of her divorce decree

3. your original divorce decree

court certified copy would be too many pages but if you wanna include that it's up to you but a copy of the original decree should be enough

remember to send only copies to USCIS

So the translator's certification attached to whatever translated document copy - does that have to be original, bearing actual signature of the translator and the seal of the translating agency? I have that, but should I send the actual certification or again a photocopy of it? Sorry if I'm getting too detailed, just don't want to make stupid mistakes.

all documents you will send to USCIS are photocopies

DO NOT send originals. Send COPIES of originals and original translations.

You will again present the ORIGINAL documents at the interview (with a copy, translations not needed for the Kiev consulate if the documents are in Russian or Ukrainian) They will review the ORIGINAL and hand it back to you and keeop the copy

Yes, it should be an ORIGINAL translation attached to a COPY of the document.
