Hi all-

My fiancee made it over on the K-1 visa. However, we want to live together for most of the 90 days before we finally get married.

But now she's coming down with bronchitis or something similar and will need to see a doctor and possibly buy anti-biotics.

My company's health insurance only covers spouses, so is there any health insurance she can get as a non-citizen for these 90 days to help defer some of the cost?

I'm willing to pay of course, but we'd like to try to save as much money as possible.

She found this website, but I'm not sure if it's legit: http://www.immigrationhealth.com/plans.htm

Anyone have any information on this type of scenario?

Thanks,

-Joel

Your better off going to a primary care doctor, most of them will charge the lowest billing fee which is allowed by Medicare fees. Just explain to the provider that your fiance is uninsured right now. Antibiotics don't cost much either. I also believe that some pharmacies(CVS) now have Nurse Practitioners which charge a nominal fee for a visit. Hope she feels better soon.

Try a retail clinic like Minuteclinic first. If its something they can treat, it will cost a fraction of a regular office visit. If its something they cant handle, they will refer you to a clinic.

Target stores and some grocery chains have retail clinics as well.

Find the clinics for "undocumented immigrants" aka illegals in your area. You'll get free to low cost treatment. I went through one while in HS on a tour. You don't have to be an illegal or from Latin/S.America to go there. Look in the local Spanish language newspaper or county/city website.

Where do you think all the illegals go to when they have health probs?

Or look for places like this:

Why don't you go and get the marriage license?

Why don't you go and get the marriage license?

During your Adjustment of Status interview, you will be asked if you ever used public assistance or public healthcare to establish whether or not you will need public assistance. This can affect your case, so be careful what is keyed into those computers.

If the problem is cold feet, just proceed carefully and listen to your gut instincts. I should have done that with the Americana I married in '01. :bonk:

i hope your wife is better considering your post was a couple of weeks ago. but i believe she should still be able to use her carte vitale and bill france's social security because she is not a legal resident yet. she's merely a french person on a visa attempting to change status. A lot of the time there is a number on her bank card (if she does still have a French bank account) she should call that and I believe the bank pays for it then the country reimburses the bank. hope this helps.
