Any VJers w/experience w/Spirit Air?

I wanted to know if the prices on the website are real or is it a case of 'Bait and Switch'? I would like to travel to Colombia with my wife in 2011, but I wonder if I can actually buy two airline tickets with Spirit for less ~$900 than the price of one ticket on Avianca ~$1,100? Any VJers can weigh in on this?

I have no experience with Spirit, but I do have experience with Ryanair...a budget airline in the EU. Prices are incredibly cheap.....No assigned seats (so everyone's practically running to the plane to get aisle seats), remote airports that can be up to 1.5 hours away from where you want to be, crazy people on the flights with you, etc.

Saying that, without them, it prolly wouldn't have been possible to be flown to a different country for dinner, so I really can't complain too much.

Dunno if Spirit is along the same lines, but imo, you do get what you pay for....

In '06, I traveled to Tallinn, and that would probably be a carrier that we could afford to visit there one day. Thanks for the info!

I haven't flown them but I have compared them with other airlines and decided against flying them - be sure to check their fees before you make a decision as you may save $200 initially, but get nickled and dimed with their other fees, such as for checked luggage. Bear in mind that Spirit was the airline that wanted to charge passengers for carry-on luggage......

Thanks for your assessent of their fees/policies. It looks initially like my wife and I can fly r/t on Spriit for the price of one airline ticket w/COPA or Avianca. But, additional fees and the fine print will have to be carefully poured through.

I have a few friends that sure know abt thta airline, it sucks! it's incredible cheap and they charge you for everything extra, the seats are super uncomfortable, if you don't mind it go for it
