Dear Vj's,

Would like to get some info from the Master's of this journey, Yeah! I got married and applied for AOS - I-485 application and recently we got the NOA1 (hardcopies). Now what's next? kinda worried though;-)while reading some info's here, that during the AOS interview you need to provide proof of bona fide relationship as couples..Of course we do have MC, but my passport still in my Single name..My big question is, should I really need to change my passport with my married Name before the interview? is this mandatory to change it immediately? We plan to apply my passport name change to my married name later...if possible..

Another thing, I would like as well to hear some positive information how to apply a passport ( name change) to my married Name, what are the necessary documents needed, where to file...oh!! a Philippine Passport Holder....( most important part!!!)..

Hearing from you guys, would greatly appreciated.

Oppps!!! sorry in advance ...just in case I posted this topic in the wrong one..as I am still a kindergarten in this journey ;-)))) ..I guess I need to keep posting so I could be a master one day in Vj's!!! ~~~ Thanks

Hi there and welcome,

I got married in September and filed an AOS as well. You don't have to change your last name and I don't think it will affect the process of the AOS. I am keeping my name and my passport will remain as it is. You absolutely have the right to keep your last name and not to take your husband's, therefore, no need to make a new passport. Hope this helps.

Your Marriage certificate can be proof that you changed your last name to your husbands.

I used my Maiden for all my AOS application because I thought I had to change my name on the Passport but when I got my Biometrics done, they said I could use my Married name without changing my passport because I got my Marriage certificate! :bonk:

Just remember, when you try to use your Husband's last name on your application, remember to fill out the line saying "Other names used"

Your Passport will be useless once you get your Greencard and SSN, you won't be needing it unless you go back to your home country or visit another country. So it will be up to us if we want a name change on our passports. ;)

Also another for name change on our passports, it's called registration of marriage in Phil. Embassy. Below is the link for all required documents.

Goodluck! ;) Hope this helped.

You are not required to change your name to prove a bonafide marriage. My passport is still in my maiden name, and I'll probably leave it that way until it expires and do the name change and renewal all at once. I did change my name on a lot of other things. At work, and on my driver's license, and bank accounts.

Like the others said you don't need to change your last name on passport for AOS. It can be done any time. I am planning on doing this as my passport is still valid till 2016 and I plan on going back to Australia in a year or so , I have to apply to Aus to get a name change and then I contact Aus embassy here in Atlanta if I wait 1 year it is free yay!!! If you do travel after AOS you just have to carry marriage certificate and GC. Your sweet

Divorced !st November 2012.

Married only 2 years 1 month
