I am currently in Vietnam visiting my wife. To make free call to the U.S (USCIS), I use Google Voice, which is free to American. All I need is a U.S proxy to access it. For that, I use proxy switcher to find U.S proxies. It works perfectly and the sound is crystal clear. I just thought it is good to let you guys know about Google Voice.

I've been using google voice for 1 month now, it's pretty cool! Thanks for sharing this info about using the US proxies, didn't really know... I made my relatives in the philippines use it and they are using it to call me everyday! It's very clear indeed! thanks! ;)

Do IM's have the ability to call cell phones?

I loved Google Voice when they allowed free international texting. I have not used it since they stopped the feature.

You can call any number in the U.S. That is the main benefit over IM.

Ability? Yes. For someone that needs to talk to a party without a pc or internet connection I understand the benefit.

one big problem with google voice is the occasionally audio delay. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, it's noticeable. Google has to address this at some point.

K1: 01/15/2009 (mailed I-129F) - 06/23/2009 (visa received)

AOS: 08/08/2009 (mailed I-485, I-765, & I-131) - 10/29/2009 (received GC)
