Hi guys,

I'm currently waiting for the second NOA, It has been 2months since I submitted my application

and I know that the 2 months is still within the average time in getting the 2nd NOA. I was

just curious to know if there was any other way to check status updates on the application?

I have been checking it using the USCIS website and using the application # provided.

Thanks

Go to the USCIS website. On the lift column, click on Sign-up for updates.

Follow the instructions for registering a new account. Enter your NOA1 receipt number, set up e-mail or SMS alerts. SMS alerts will only be sent to US mobile numbers.

You will know if your file has been "touched" if the date under the column "Last Updated" has changed.

Please note you will ONLY receive alerts for major milestones in your application, such as: Acceptance (of application), Initial Review, Request for Evidence, Approvals, Card Production, etc. You will NOT receive alerts for touches.

There is NOTHING of any value you can do to get status updates. in fact there ARE NO status updates. A petition with no problems or questions will be picked up and adjudicated in about 20 minutes, when they get to it. Until then it sits somewhere. There are no status updates. "Touches" are not a good thing. Best is when it sits there for 3 months, then gets approved. Many people are under some false impression that teams of people are diligently working on your petition for months and months...like building a skyscraper or something. They are not. It SITS and waits. YOU sit and wait. When it comes time, they take your file, open it, and if everything is in order the first notice you receive will be an approval. That's it.

Read the pinned topic at the top of the forum regarding how your petition is handled at the Service Center.

In the meantime...you will be moving to another country very soon (6 months IS very soon to move to another country) so you and your fiancee should be preparing for that. Get your interview documents ready. Prepare for your new life in the USA, get your educational credentials in order, get them evaluated here in the USA (you can be doing that now) your fiancee should be searching for ESL classes for you, if needed, get you enrolled in those. Apply for private educational grants, remodel the bathroom...whatever. He should have ALL information regarding your education, what you need to get a drivers license or permit, etc. all ready for you. There is TONS of stuff to do. I was far too busy to be checking online "status". Alla had her SSN 2 days after arriving, a private education grant in place and started her Master's degree program 5 days after arriving. (And she wanted to know why it took so long!) Our son was in school here 2 days after arriving. None of that happened by accident.

In short, ANY time spent trying to get "updates" on something for which there are NO updates, is a waste of time.

Wow, I'm impressed! Seriously. You had it all figured out, we're trying to do the same. I want to enroll at a university in the USA, I'm trying to improve my English skills as much as I can and I'm even looking for jobs. Maybe too soon for that though? :D

Anyway, I'm doing things to prepare. I'm preparing very much for the interview. I'm also checking my case status though I'm sure you're right and the petition just sits and waits. :D 6 months is a short time indeed. And considering the fact that K-1 visas took 4 months to get lately... it's an even shorter time. :)

I have seen lots of people here who waited for NOA2 without doing anything else, without even knowing about the AOS process and how things with it are done! Unbelievable, I know. Other people just waited for the petition to be approved and in the mean time they did nothing and then they regreted that they wasted time waiting, when they could have done something useful for their own future.
