Hi VJ Friends,

So, event though it seems very far away, I can't help but to want to plan my wedding. I am still waiting for my NOA 2, but its never too early to daydream =)

I have plans to go to Peru for my fiance's interview, assuming he gets approved, I was contemplating doing a religious ceremony before returning to the US with him and doing the civil wedding. I know this is tricky, I guess my question is, are religious wedding ceremonies considered "legal" in Peru?

Hope you are all doing well, or at least being more patient than me in this waiting game

Contact the embassy. I know a church wedding is not considered a legal wedding in Paraguay, and I confirmed this by e-mailing the embassy in Paraguay. You should do the same if you have doubts.

Any ceremony in Peru voids the visa. I have asked a couple places including the embassy. You are allowed to have a religious ceremony once everything is finished here and he has permission to travel. Like I said, my fiance wants the same thing in Lima, but her and I must wait until she is here and we file for change of status. If you have any questions about Peru or any advice for me, I would love to hear it.

:crying: I guess maybe I will do a pre-wedding party hehe. The thing is that his family or a majority of my family (from Brasil) will not be able to be at the civil ceremony. We planed originally on doing the religious after the change of status, but it kinda looses the magic a bit. Thanks for posting though, its good to know that it voids the visa.

Hope all goes well with your visa also, and pass on any advice you have =)

Why would it void the visa?

Religious weddings in Peru are not Legal weddings. Youre not legally bound to that person, only by God.

You have to have a civil wedding in order to be recognized by the peruvian state.

Some people have both weddings at the same time, first they do the religious one and then sign the legal documents. But again, having a religious ceremony is doesnt make the marriage legal under the law.

So why would it void the visa if its used for Legal marriages only and that shall be held once its approved.

Please advice because my fiancee and I are having the same doubts
