Thank you for your email dated September 27, 2010.

I have checked our records and we have not received this case yet. After the USCIS approves the petition, it sends the petition to National Visa Center for processing, prior to sending it to the embassy or consulate where the applicant would come for their immigrant visa interview.

NVC processes all approved immigrant visa petitions after they are received from US Citizenship and Immigration Services in the Department of Homeland Security (USCIS) and retains them until the cases are ready for adjudication by a consular officer abroad. Petitions may remain at NVC for several months or for many years depending on the visa category and country of birth of the visa applicant. When an applicant's case is about to become current (a visa number is likely to be available within the year), the petition is forwarded to the appropriate U.S. embassy or consulate overseas.

Have you received a letter from the National Visa Center (NVC) telling you that your case was sent to Accra? You may want to follow up with the National Visa Center regarding the status of your case. The NVC can be reached via email at NVCINQUIRY@state.gov .

Once we have received the case from the NVC an appointment letter will be sent to you asking that the applicant come to the Embassy for a packet with instructions for the next steps.

It is difficult to tell you how long this process takes as the length of time may vary from case to case according to its circumstances.

We hope this information is helpful to you and please let us know if we may be of further assistance.

Kind regards,

U.S. Embassy Accra

Consular Section
