"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

i've got it. pretty good and it also stays running to keep out things. i've got it, pestpatrol, and ad-aware, will delete ad-aware as it's a waste of time to run it after the other two. go with the 2 year subscription on webroot, it's a better deal.

Thx Rch and Charles.

Cian...!!!! You couldn't be any more helpful than you have been-- that's just great, thanks!! I'm going to have to leave it at the moment, but, like yesterday, will do it later tonight and let you know how it goes--as long as I don't run into any troubles finding any of those things...blah.

Lol...I'm sure you're right. I've thought about it many times, but I haven't actually taken the step to get that technologically evolved yet, so I should be ok on THAT front at least. Good point tho...heh. M.

OK-Not to hijack this thread or anything, but can someone tell me if this is bad?

I ran virus scan and it said:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll ...result-CHANGED

and

C:\WINDOWS\system32\kernel32.dll ...result-CHANGED

??? Anyone?

Thanks

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

That either means that it was "updated", or that there was a nasty in there and it was "disinfected". I wouldn't worry about it.

Ok, Cian. Sorry it's taken a bit to get back to you; my family from southern WI is up for the week, so've been spending a bit of time by them out at the lake--will be leaving again in a while for the afternoon. Anyway--

I've done the system restore off, deleted those folders you said to delete, and removed a couple of things like my sons MP3 player, etc. Craig can do that for him on his laptop. When I deleted Java, which was 119MB, I expected there would be more room, but I still only have about 600MB. The only other thing I can see I could possibly delete right now is Quicktime...which is 66MB. Should I go ahead and try to install pack 2 yet? Not sure just how much space I'll need...you said it's only about 300MB, but then additional room is required to back things up...?

Thanks SO much for all your help!....awaiting my next move. LOL M.

Alright...decided to try to install SP2 and I was 94 MB short (in order for the backups, etc.) I did delete Quicktime now, that was another 66MB, and also took off a couple of spyware programs I had just installed in the last couple of days in order to run the scans I've been doing..they were about 16MB each. I'm concerned that if I somehow manage to get this installed now, my computer will be so jam packed now that I won't be able to do a thing. We do intend to follow your suggestion and get a 80GB hard drive for this computer, but we won't be able to do that until the end of Sept. Any other thoughts, when you get around to it, will be appreciated! (F) M.

Some of that space will free back up after the installation. Granted, it WILL be close. I've tried to run XP on a 4GB drive before, and it's nearly impossible. All I can say is, you'll be a lot safer with SP2 installed. You won't be able to do much - not going to lie about that - but you'll be a lot safer from internet nasties.

michelle ....

eliminate all your hassle and just get a new HD now! they are not that expensive. you can easily get an 80g HD for under $50!!!!!!!!! new egg is the best online, IMO. we just built a third system (for me) for $627 (including 19" widescreen).

if $50 is still not do-able for you at the moment ... my best suggestion is to back-up everything that you MUST have to a disk/CD and do a new XP install.

sometimes that's the best solution.
