Uncle Sam isn't a real family member. There's a big distinction between spending your money on your family and paying taxes which may or not be well spent and there are more overhead expenses involved.

Ah those lucky kids living on food stamps, TANF, section 8 housing and getting a quality education in America's finest inner city public schools with metal detectors.

Because if one hesitates at entrusting the Government with the management of their life...they probably don't feed their kids too?

Speaking of feeding kids, do you know that kids whom government has the most control over in this regard are have the poorest diets and or far and away the most overweight.

If ever there were an opportunity for the government to step in and take the lead on -kids eating healthy is it right there with the programs known as food stamps.......but again, we see billions and billions of tax dollars spent essentially creating health problems we will then treat with more "Goberment programs".

If that aint patriotic... I don't know what is.

That's one of the reasons behind abortion, remember? It's the legal way to get rid of unwanted kids.

Certainly have more poor folks to produce another generation of government dependent isn't something we should strive for. Maybe the idea of upward mobility and aiming a little higher is just too much to ask for.

Mmmm .. I'd say one of the main reasons behind abortion is the woman's right to choose but that's just me ... plus, I think that the people who have kids in poverty are too poor to have abortions anyway ...

Shouldn't we be providing better education, health care, housing and training schemes to ensure that these people make it out of the poverty trap? The idea of upward mobility to some one in a project in Detroit is laughable ... really ... if you believe otherwise then I'm sorry but you're just living in a dream land!!!

The toold are and have been there but unfortunately they usually have no one to encourage them to use those tools. Their mentors are hoodlums so they will become one. We can lead them there but they have to take the next step. I know several that lived in bad circumstances but they made the choice to get out and took the tools there and got out. No whining and becoming a victim. (Only you can make yourself a victim)

Of course many take the other way and I feel no sympathy for them.
