It was a general question, not specific to heels, although there is significant medical evidence that high heels cause long term problems if worn regularly. Personally, I would not sacrifice health for looks. Wearing heels briefly for an evening out, fine, regularly, no chance.

There are other health issues that are connected to this question though, and I do not think anyone should risk their health in order to (briefly) look better. Of course, people are free to choose to do whatever they like but my choice is to be healthy first.

Not long ago I read an article with research done and the long term effect of wearing heels daily is really really bad for muscles and ligaments in the calves and Achilles. I don't wear heels but if I did it would be for special events. They hurt my ankles but I have an underlying ankle issue. I am just not a heel wearing gal. I'm part hippie and part trendy, and not at all glamorous. So I agree with what you said above. Of course flip flops are also hazardous to foot arches, and I have been guilty of that one.

from what my wife tells me (and my podiatrist too) most female footware f***s up your feet in some way. If it doesnt then its probably not that sexy/cute.

I have cute flats that aren't too bad. And they make cute shoes with good support in them these days(but pricey to me). But overall, yeah I bet that is true.

It's pretty hard to believe an entire industry has built itself around a product that "men don't notice". I think the researchers need to go back an re-examine this one.

If the porn and stripper industries have even latched on to it, I say it gets noticed.

Here's a question, if you know that something that makes a woman look good is also bad for her health, would you still believe it was something women should do?

Absolutely. Looking good comes before health for women. Looking good comes before everything, actually. A woman's sole purpose is to look good and then bear children. Even after children, if she ceases looking good a man will look elsewhere to deposit his seed.

Like anything taxing on one's body, it's not safe to be "out of shape" and attempt to do it. If you play basketball without stretching, you're more prone to pull something. Same with heels. Adding stress is adding stress.

I like a good set of cross-trainers on a chick just as much as a set of spikes. Seriously, footwear isn't that important to dudes. If you're doing it up big, the shoes are part of the outfit. But, it's the overall outfit (read: confidence exuded) that makes it, not he accessories. This is why flat-chested and fat girls get laid too.

I have to disagree since British porn (and movies) all feature "sexy" women wearing heels.
