AOS Approved!!!

My wife and I went to our AOS interview last week, 9/15/2010... and we were approved!!!:dance::dance:

I know our smooth journey through would not be possible if it wasn't for this site and its members. A MILLION THANKS TO VJ!

So our interview was scheduled for 11am at the San Bernadino, CA office. We got there at 10-ish and we were called-in for the interview at 11:10am. Everything went well... the officer was pretty intimidating but generally nice and straight forward.

When we got into his office, the first thing he asked for were our identifications and my certificate of citizenship. After handing them over to him, he said he was going to make copies of those and asked to have our marriage certificate and any proof that we are living together ready. He came back and asked for our marriage certificate and for photos. He left the room again and made copies of those.

He walks back in his office again and returned our marriage certificate and the photo album I handed him. For the proof of us living to together, I handed him a copy of our credit card statement, phone bill and proof of my wife being added to my health insurance and as my primary beneficiary. He just quickly glanced at the documents and inserted them in our file. He didn’t have any questions or comments about any of the documents I gave him.

He asked my wife for her name, address and date of birth. My wife answered. Then he asked when she arrived in the US, when we got married and if we got married within 90 days of her arrival. And that was it! He stamped our file APPROVED.

He then told us that we should receive her gc in the mail in about 2 weeks. He also started explaining everything behind the 2-yr conditional gc and that we need to apply for removal of conditions 3 months prior to expiration.

That was pretty much it. Before we left, he asked us if we had any questions. I asked him if he needed the EAD card and the Advance Parole document that we received and whether he needs to put a stamp on my wife’s passport. He said we can keep the EAD card and AP document and just discard it when we receive the gc. As for the stamp, he said they don’t do that anymore since the gc arrives pretty quickly.

We thanked him for his time and I complimented the DHS for a pretty quick AOS process. I was pretty surprised with his response… he said the reason why they’re pretty fast lately is because they’re starting to run out of cases to process!!! (I’m not sure if he was only referring to their local office or the DHS as a whole) – but after thinking about it, his comment kinda made sense… with the depressed US economy and all, I guess less people are migrating to the US…
