I was listening to the news on the radio the other day while driving. I don't know what show it was but they had one of those expert economist on and he said frankly, "Don't pay any attention to what is being said about the economy for the next couple of years. The truth is nobody knows. That all you're going to be hearing is everyone hashing it out about what they think is going to happen and none of it is going to make any difference anywhere. Turn your televisions, your radios and your internet off for awhile and don't pay any attention to any of it."

After listening to that and feeling saturated daily by the ups and downs of television, radio and internet about every which angel they could take a subject what this man said rang a bell of truth for me.

I'll sum it up better than any economist, the US economy is fubar. The country is financially and morally bankrupt.

For example, while fifteen million Americans are unemployed and triple that underemployed, 'The Situation' alone earned $5 million.

Essentially, the majority of the country is looking like a fool with its pants on the ground.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

You must be in the wrong line of work. You're way too smart for here.

I have been getting email alerts from networking sites I belong to for lots of animation industry jobs. I even got a call from my agent yesterday wanting to know where I was at currently. I also have a former colleague who recently secured a full time position at Disney, so things appear to be looking up, at least in the animation profession.

I saw a nice bump in business around here a few months back, I thought we were turning the corner.... but it seems to have dried up.

You know what is going to fix all of this? Tax breaks. You give a US company a tax break on top of the negligible tax they already pay and they are just going to hire 500 million people. The rich need tax breaks too, further illustrate by Charles threads regarding their frugality. Frugality and service economy go hand in hand.

I could have sworn every small business owner I know, well abroad, hires people when business improves. Apparently over here, it's when they get tax breaks. Everywhere else, business usually improves when there is increase demand for their products or services.

What can an economy do to artificially stimulate demand in a stalled economy? Starts and ends with s.

Short term economic fluctuations should not run most peoples' lives. Consumers and those in business should be acting their own self interests and not be stymied be grim sounding headlines or wildly acting on happy daily headlines either.

Not quite reassuring to know one of the few upticks in the economy comes from the unreal world of cartoons and comics.
