Hi everyone! I am from New Jersey. I wonder if there are members here from NJ who were driving in the Philippines before. My question is did they still take the actual driving test or just the written exam? I have been driving for 18 years in Manila,Philippines and I was wondering if I would start from scratch here? Any information is highly appreciated guys! Thanks in advance!!!!

I had my driving license from my country (Moldova - Eastern Europe), but I had to take my written test and today I passed driving test on the road. So even I had my driving lisence they still told me that I have to take driving tests (written and behind the wheel) here in US.

I applied for my New Jersey license last August. I had been driving in Canada for over 20 years. I had to do the written test and found it very difficult. I would recommend you study the online test questions before applying. I was one question away from failing but luckily passed. As far as the road test, I was told that it was up to the discretion of the person administering the written test. They did question me about my Canadian license as I had just had it reissued to show my married name. The agent thought I was a new driver, in which case I may have had to take the road test, but once I explained I had been driving for over 20 years he was okay. They are also very picky with ID in NJ , this site might help. Good luck and study, study, study!

Cool!!!! I am really worried about the actual driving test. Though i have been driving for 18 yrs in the Philippines and if you know how it is in the Philippines when it comes to driving, it's insane! Filipino drivers are really one of a kind.lol.

Thanks for your tip!!! :)

Thank you very much for your response. I am anxious to take the written exam,I have been procrastinating about it many times. But I have to get one, this time. I need it badly. Can't even go out by myself since I dont have DL yet. Where in NJ are you from?

Are you sure you can not drive with ur phillipine drivers license.... I was reading the NJ drivers manual and it says that foreigners can drive with their license as long as they belong to the United Nation Road Treat or something like that so in my case Peru signs that ... I was wondering if I could drive with that all the time or I will have to actually take the driving test too.... probably I will have to :(, the last thing I want are problems with cops!

Bad thing happen to my Phil. DL was stoled so i really need to have one here in US issue.

Same day we reported to the police and they just told me that its not a valid DL here in US (O

K) to drive.I cant go out, cant go to the groceries store. My Husband is leaving this month for a work trip to S'pore for 2 weeks. :(

And I have a son who is studying and need to send to school everyday. When we went to Dep't of Public Safety office for my written test schedule they were told me that i need to have a permanent visa or after AOS status (Bummer :(:bonk: my husband was so dissappointed ) before i can start a test for DL .i am K1 visa we just got married 3 weeks ago.

now we are starting the paper works for the AOS hopefully by next week everything will be ready :help:

:ot2:

Every State has a different policy to get a DL ( i assume) when i tried to use the sample test of NJ :))

I don't think that would work for you long term as a permanent resident. I would interpret that to apply to foreign visitors/workers residing here for work contracts or other short term reasons.
