Secondary Processing at POE

Ladies and Gents,

I entered the US a few day ago using my new 10-year greencard for the first time. I expected to enter normally this time. However, just like the last 2 entries, I was asked to go for secondary processing.

The first time I was called for secondary processing I was told she's not sure why exactly was I picked. The second time was when i was pending removal of conditions and because I entered with an expired greencard (so I've been told), and this was actually verified by the officer who took care of my secondary processing when I entered. Seems that this officer actually knew what he was doing and he actually explained why I was picked for secondary. It had to do with verification of enrollment from the time I was still a student.

To cut the story short, it was the university's fault since they knew I had a pending greencard application yet they thought I'm still required to maintain fulltime enrollment (it was my last semester, so even if i didnt have a pending greencard, I still had the right to be under-enrolled ) The officer actually said he submitted a request to DHS to fix the problem, but also gave me instructions on how to make sure it's been fixed (by submitting follow-up inquiry). The guy said that even when I become a citizen (God Willing), I'll still get pulled into secondary if I don't fix that error.

So my thoughts to you, if you keep getting consistently pulled into secondary processing, you have the right to ask and see what's wrong. If you're in a similar spot, please share your experience

Thanks for this enlightening post. If the CBP/ICE agent is gruff or uncommunicative, politely ask to speak with the Passenger Services Representative, or with a supervisor. The agents who aren't on the front lines dealing with endless streams of people can be quite pleasant to interact with.
