Timeline

I sent in my daughters I-130 Monday 23rd August to the Chicago Lockbox. Does anybody know the approx timeline that I should hear something back? Or what actually happens from there? From what I gather, from Chicago its sent to the nearest Service Centre, which for us should be either Nebraska or the field office in Kansas city. Is it processed in Chicago or not until it reaches the next service centre?

Or will I know nothing at all until I get a 'Notice of Receipt'?

Hi! I've sent our I-130 on 08/13/2010, reached chicago lockbox on 17th and we've got a hard copy notice of action w/receipt number today 8/28 -- from California center - and we are in the East coast too. I forgot to attach the form G-1145 into our I-130, but when you receive your NOA1 w/receipt # you can register it on-line and request on-line to do a cell/e-mail alert.

did you file the G-1145 with the I-130 ?

assumption - child is not in USA -

Lockbox operations will send the casefile to a national processing center, either West Coast, California (WAC receipt notice #) or East Coast, Vermont (VSC receipt notice #)

Then, within 150 days, the I-130 will be approved, usually - maybe 180 days. If prior to 150 days, it's a blessing.

When you know the receipt #, from the postal-mailed I-797-C form (NOA-1) then you can login to the USCIS web portal, check status, every so often, also sign up for email notifications.

When the I-130 is approved, takes about 2 weeks for the casefile to travel from USCIS to NVC, and then ya gots to do NVC Processing - see

DS-230 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html

I-864 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3730.html

General NVC stuff - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1335.html

and

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/221785-ds-3032-slowdown/page__view__findpost__p__3560467 if you'd like to utilize the online payment portal.

Figure about 2 to 3 months to finish up with NVC, then there will be some other stuff after, possible scheduling at NVC, then the casefile goes to the US Embassy - figure 1 to 3 months after 'case complete' at NVC for the interview date.

Good Luck !

No she is here in the states. I am in Kansas so it will/should be sent to the nebraska service center that processes I-130's. I already have an online account for case status. I did not file a G-1145, I was unaware of it.

whoa.

just the I-130 ?

not file the I-130 + I-485 ( 'AOS') together?

where did you want the interview to be? (what country)

and

what visa did the child hold, on this current entry into the USA?

IMO, unless a Visa Officer told you to file just an I-130,

you should have, instead, filed a complete 'Adjustment of Status' Case for a person currently in the USA

and

what 'thing' are you filing for, hoping to get, for the daughter?

Got today NoA in postal mail (03 Sept).

Filed on 19 Aug to Chicago

Text/email on 24 Aug (Receipt number)

Check Cashed on 25 Aug

Depend on your address location and Service Center location you should be getting your Receipt in postal mail within week of check cashed. In my case it took a 4-5 days to get mail from california to east coast.

I got the official letter with receipt number today, they DID send her file to the California service centre, which surprised me as we are closer to the nebraska one.

We live in Kansas so the interview will be at the kansas city field office. I filed only the I-130, she is here in the states with me now, due to circumstances out of my hands. She came in on visa waiver. We filed this way on the advice of an immigration lawyer.

OK - sorry, no other input then, except -

to harry yer immigration lawyer - usually an 'adjustment of status' case is NOT 'just' the I-130 - there's an I-485 as well. For 'fastest service' these are filed concurrently, together in same mailer.

My apologies for my confusion (daughter not in USA).

I wasnt doing an adjustment of status, only a petition for alien relative... actually my american citizen husband is petitioning for her as his step child. They didnt send me any further instructions on the letter, which it said if they wanted more- there would be instructions on the letter. I guess I just have to wait and see what comes next. Hopefully it'll be as painless as my immigration was. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the replys.
