Hi folks!

My name's David, I currently live in Manchester, England. My fiancé, Katie, is the USC and she lives just outside Chicago (in Indiana).

We're finally putting the I-129f together and Question 18 is causing some problems - How long / short should I make the answer? Here's what I have so far:

We first met through a friend in June 2008, and after talking on the phone and through the internet, my fiancé flew to the USA in October 2009 and we spent 3 weeks together in a hotel. He flew back to Chicago in April 2010 and stayed for 7 weeks (in a hotel), and during which time he proposed to me and I said yes.

I have written it as if the petitioner is talking, rather than the beneficiary. I have also included passport stamps, hotel recipts, bank/credit card statements, purchase receipts and Katie will be printing pictures out of us together, and I also have ticket stubs from some of the attractions we have photographs from.

Does my question 18 answer look ok? Do I need more details?

Another question I have - do we address the Letter of Intent to the drop box in Dallas - or do we have to specify the local USCIS office - would that be Chicago?

Thanks in advance,

David and Katie.

David.

I think your answer to question 18 is ok when I wrote mine it was only two or three sentences. Also the letter of intent should be addressed to USCIS either Vermont or California. Docs are only going to Dallas for intake and then will be forward to either of the two I think someone who has filed lately can better answer that one because the mailing of docs changed shortly after I filed. Please check the sample forms here on VJ for more clarification there is a sample forms tab at the top of the page. GOOD LUCK!!!!

It's almost perfect; I've edited it a bit:

Hah, thanks for that, my original draft was almost identical to your edit! :) So no need to mention proposing etc.?

Thanks

No. Your two Letters of Intent to Marry and presumption of why you are filing the K-1 do that.

The reality of the relationship will be determined from your evidence and at the interview.

Ok, seems obvious when you put it like that... Appreciate it.

Hello All,

I am very new to this site, and at this time working on my I-129F Petition for fiance visa.

I am curious as to how much detail is need for question 18 of the I-129F. At current it reads

"I met my fiance the summer of 2007, working at a summer camp in Pennslyvania. He proposed a year later at the same camp, and since has spent every Easter, Summer and Christmas with me here in Michigan"

I have also noticed that some members of the site have posted their I-129F to various locations.

Do I file all documents for the K1 to the following:

USCIS

P.O. Box 660151

Dallas, TX 75266

Thank you in advance for your help. The K1 process looks like a headache...but I'm determined to file it myself rather than pay a lawyer.

I've seen people do a whole page explaining how/where they first met as well as all the other times they met to ensure they've covered their bases. So long as the first paragraph explains the first meeting - I would add what you feel comfortable with.

For your second question: Yes all the files go in one neat package to the Texas lockbox (there are two addresses, one for carriers the other for the postal service).

Hey David, I'm a fellow Northerner ;) we put our K-1 app in in December, we did it all ourselves too, if you print off the guidance notes and read them carefully you should be fine. I read them over and over lol. We kept ours pretty short too, Just how we had met and when we had met in person. Not sure if you need to mention you stayed in a hotel, personally I'd just keep it relevant. Good luck with your journey!!! :D

Hi David!

It seems like Katie and I are "sort of" neighbors. Regarding question #18, I think it is a good rule of thumb not to make the answer longer than a page. Really, do not make it a novel, but provide enough details to show when you first met and a brief overview of how the relationship progressed. It would also be important to specify the dates you spent together (either in the USA or in the UK). I attached a separate sheet of paper to answer question #18, but it was fairly short, but explained how my fiance and I met and how our relationship progressed.

Best wishes!

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.

I agree with all of this except the bolded part. USCIS doesn't care how your relationship progressed. That's not for them to dissect, that's at the interview. All USCIS cares about in regards to question 18 is that you've met in the last two years.
