Prior year Tax Returns

Just a quick question, I hope i will get a quick response back and I know I will, should we sign the prior years Tax returns with the current date or with the date they were filed ?...anybody have any idea or how did you guys do it...???

Just make a copy of the ones you filed. They should already have been signed. Either by hand - if you snail-mailed them - or via electronic signature - if you e-filed them.

Please fill out your timeline...it helps with the statistics that VJ provides to its members.

They were electronically filed, and I guess we have to sign them with our original signatures before we can submit them with I-864, isn't this true???

Just print whatever comes up. You effectively signed online when you did then so that should be enough. I would recommend that you get your tax transcripts instead so you know that everything is taken care of. They are free to request from the IRS and provide the official record of your filed taxes.

Why bother with Tax Returns and signing them if you can just use Tax Return Transcripts instead? Less paperwork in the package and more convincing of actually having filed your returns.

Fact is, unless specifically asked for, you only need the last years tax return

"(D) Federal Tax Return(s). No matter whether a sponsor submits Form I-864 or I-864EZ, the sponsor must provide a copy or an IRS-generated transcript of the sponsor’s Federal income tax return for the sponsor’s most recent tax year."
