Me and my husband are trying to help my sister in law visit us for 6 months in the U.S. A . She is from nigeria we want her to visit as long as possible but if they think that is too long to be away from her husband and teenagage child will the embassy interviewer reject it all togther or will they be able to adjust the time and give her 1-3 month visit right then at interview? Or will she have to try again later for a shorter period of time? please let me know so that if that is the case she can apply and ask for a shorter period of time from the start. Please help answer

From my experience in 2008 you can only apply for the one period per visit. I tried for 6 months and they said no. I tried to change it to 3, anything, but they said I'd need to re-apply if I wanted to change the length of time.

Honestly 6 months is a REALLY long time to be away from work, and her husband and her child. She would need STRONG evidence of ties to Nigeria in order to let her get a visitors visa. They'll assume something like she's trying to get to the US, divorce her husband, marry an American and then AOS and apply for her child. She needs to make sure they don't think it's just that easy.

thank you for your help. We want her to visit period whatever the time frame,so we want her first application to be successful. what time period seems reasonable? is 2 months too long?

2 months sounds reasonable to me, even 3 months because she wouldn't stay the WHOLE 3 months, she'd have to leave before the 3 months were up. so she might only actually stay 2 1/2 months. I'd try for 3, if you're really worried try for 2. Honestly any period is more than you see her currently.

Also I have not be able to find any information regarding the amount of money we should be able to show we have at our disposal for her visit. They have very little so then we will have to show we have enough for a 3 month stay. How much is reasonable for us to show in our savings?
