GOP candidate Angle: What's happening in America is a violation of the First Commandment

Wiles: Half of the country is working to produce and pay the taxes and pay the bills, the other half is living off the taxpayers -- they’re living off the other 51 percent.

Angle: We’re right to that point in the graph where it says, “government dependency.” And we know that once we have a majority that are dependent upon the government, we will lose our freedom; it says we go into bondage. That’s the next stage. Our Founders warned against this. They said don’t… that your liberty is only as secure as the people are. Because once they, um, get the ability to vote themselves entitlements from the largesse of the government, liberty is done; freedom is over with. We were warned. We are there. We’re right on the cusp of it, and you’ve identified those numbers. That’s the war that we’re in. You know, when I talk about a war and a battle and soldiers we have to take up our…our cry for freedom. And we can do it right now at the battle box… I mean at the ballot box. I’m not sure what continues on after 2010. I know people are very frightened about what’s going on in this country. And these programs that you mentioned -- that Obama has going with Reid and Pelosi pushing them forward -- are all entitlement programs built to make government our God. And that’s really what’s happening in this country is a violation of the First Commandment. We have become a country entrenched in idolatry, and that idolatry is the dependency upon our government. We’re supposed to depend upon God for our protection and our provision and for our daily bread, not for our government. And you’ve just identified the real crux of the problem.

I was looking at the site and found this comment, which is spot-on:

Actually, half of the people in this country don't make enough money to exceed the standard deduction and exemptions, because they're poor. They still pay 7.65% of every dollar earned into FICA, and they still pay sales taxes, and excise taxes on their gasoline and utility bills, but they don't have enough income to trigger payment of the income tax. Of course, if you're one of those people who hates the poor, whether they're white, black, Mexican, Asian, or plaid, it's real easy to claim they're "living off the other 51 percent."

"Blessed are the poor; for they shall inherit the earth." -- Jesus of Nazareth

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Thats about in line with what Huckabee said during the campaign last year. Something to the effect that America needs to be more in line with the christian beliefs, that it was easier to change the constitution than it is to change the ten commandments.

We need to worry when people start coveting that ox we don't have

Unlike the constitution, this cannot be amended so we are stuck with it

In the year 15,500 AD, kids will be asking "Mommy daddy, did you ever covet an ox ?"

What the hell does paying taxes have to do with the first commandment anyway?

This is what happens when rogue denominations are free to go and interpret something as they see fit.

Seriously, what is the first commandment? I can't be arsed to google it.

I thought "thou shall not kill" was first?

It is ' pay your tithe or your kid will be interfered with by the priest'
