BP - Here to stay or quietly go away?

9 members have voted

  1. 1. Would you patronize a re-branded BP station {multiple responses possible}?

    • Yes - If I needed gas desperately
    • Yes - If it was close to home
    • Yes - If it was convenient to my route
    • Yes - If I knew the staff & liked the service
    • No - with very few exceptions
    • No - no way no how
      0
    • No - I would go so far as to discourage friends, etc. from using a re-branded BP
    • No - I would not patronize them if they kept or changed their brand name
      0
  2. 2. Would re-branding be a good idea if you ran BP?

  3. 3. Would the media cry foul if BP stations re-brand as Amoco?

Not many people are aware that BP bought up Amoco,

including the brand name, back in 1998.

This poll is for opinion about the possibility of BP stations being re-branded as Amoco.

However, everything else would naturally remain the same.

Once they try to do this, do you think the media will have a field day in exposing this,

or will things be quietly swept under the rug and business would resume as usual?

I was actually just discussing this with my husband. There were 2 BPs around us and now they both changed to Gulf. He said They're probably the same company but when BP has bad rep then why not try Gulf. Ironically BP has a bad rep for 2 reasons around here, right before the oil spill a teenage boy stopped at a BP to pump gas, the store was closed but the pumps remain open to credit card users, but as he pulled up the bottom of his car caught on fire and once he stepped out to pump gas he burnt up with his car.

Very astute observation from a UK VJ member; in fact you're right about Gulf

(from Wikipedia):

Standard Oil of California and Gulf Oil merged in 1984, the largest merger in history at that time. Under the antitrust regulation, SoCal divested many of Gulf's operating subsidiaries, and sold some Gulf stations and a refinery in the eastern United States.[30] British Petroleum bought many of the stations in the Southeastern United States.

Has it bothered you when some get wind of your accent and draw inappropriate

conclusions between you and BP?

BP issues aside, I like the BP branding, It's nice, colourful and clean looking.

Not sure about elsewhere, but here in Fl, BP stations have the best maintained shops and bathroom facilities. I've been in some digusting ones from other companies that make the bathroom in the pub in Trainspotting look good.

I haven't voted so as to bias the poll one way or the other.

Thanks for the input.

There should also have been a choice of "Yes, without reservations or doubts."

Of COURSE the mainsludge media would hammer BP for attempted rebranding.

It's a major shame that most BP gas stations are not company-owned, but instead independently owned & operated. Therefore, boycotts are hurting the small businessmen, not Corporate.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I'm the USC half of the couple, my husband doesn't get too bothered with the BP issue. We're living in PA so up here the BP issue hasn't caused so many headaches like in the south. People up hear are more worried about money and the economy and blaming Obama for everything though we live in a many democratic city.

I was going to point this out as well, most the BPs around here are tiny and independently owned. I think there's one big one that's still a BP at the truck stop but the 2 little ones that are independent have changed to Gulf.

Yes without reservations/doubts would have been good to have, but too late to add here.

Selecting all the "yes" responses as you did conveys almost the same sentiment.

It might be up to the franchisees (local owners) to re-brand (at their expense)

rather than a corporate decision (as I may have implied in the poll).

Corporate would have I believe to make that an option for them.

They could also re-brand as Shell or Exxon/Mobil to really distance themselves.

I think it's time for the "WHO" to make a jingle for BP:

We'll be fighting New Orleans

With oil on our feet

And the morals that they worship will be gone

And the men who spurred us on

Sit in judgment of all wrong

They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new BP chairman

Take a bow for the new offshore rigging

Smile and grin at the change all around me

Pick up my guitar and play

Just like yesterday

And I'll get on my knees and pray

We don't get fooled again

Don't get fooled again

Change it had to come

We knew it all along

We were liberated from the fall that's all

But the world looks just the same

And history ain't changed

'Cause the pelicans, they all flown in the last war

I'll tip my hat to the new BP chairman

Take a bow for the new offshore rigging

Smile and grin at the change all around me

Pick up my guitar and play

Just like yesterday

And I'll get on my knees and pray

We don't get fooled again

Don't get fooled again

No, no!

I'll move myself and my family aside

If we happen to be left half alive

I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky

For I know that the hypnotized never lie

Do ya?

There's nothing in New Orleans

Looks any different to me

And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye

And the parting on the left

Is now the parting on the right

And the welfare lines have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new BP chairman

Take a bow for the new offshore rigging

Smile and grin at the change all around me

Pick up my guitar and play

Just like yesterday

Then I'll get on my knees and pray

We don't get fooled again

Don't get fooled again

No, no!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Meet the new BP

Same as the old BP
