Photo Dimensions??

I'm ready to send I-130 for my wife, but I'm confused with photo dimensions. I-130 instruction guide states that "dimensions of full frontal facial image should be about 1 inch from the chin to top of the hair" but this specification http://travel.state.gov/pdf/Photo%20Guide%2010-01-04.pdf asks for 2" x 2" picture. My wife and I got passport style photos (or so we thought) in Bosnia, but these are about 2" x 1.5" and frontal image is 1" chin to hair, as asked for in the instruction guide for I-130. I don't know what to do now... Do I have valid photos or not? do I send these photos, or do I have her take new photos and have them mail to me which could take 10-15 days :(

Anyone had similar experience?

Thanks!!!

You don't have right photos. Please follow the guide unless you want photo RFE.

No, you do not have the correct size photos. Eventually, somewhere down the road, you will get a RFE asking for the correct photos. So have your wife retake the correct photos & have her send them to you.

I am in the same boat as you, I haven't receive an RFE yet as I am still in the early stages but I had my wife retake the pictures & I have them in my possession. When (if) I get the RFE, I will resubmit.

When I went to India I asked the photographer to give us all photos on a CD. The photographer gave us the original (unedited) photographs burned to CD, as well as the retouched photographs that he created for USA purposes.

That way if anything happened or was wrong with his retouched rendition, I could go back to the original unedited photo and do it again in Photoshop.

Something to consider if you are having photo problems.

I kinda wanted to do that, and I went to Walgreens where I usually get my passport photos to ask if I can bring digital copy of a passport style photo and have them print, and they said no. Do you know if any other store would do this?

Any photo service will print your digital file for you (even Walgreens) BUT they will not edit your file for you to turn it into a 2x2 photo. You'll have to do the editing yourself. In my case, what I do is edit and resize my jpg file so that I end up with 2x2 (1x1, or whatever size I want) photo with the right facial dimensions. I then create another jpg file (4x6, the usual size they print in photo stores) with my resized jpg files so that I end up with six 2x2 pics per 4x6 sheet (I usually arrange my photos so I have four 2x2 and two 1.5x2 because I also use a lot of the 1.5x2 photos here). Now, when you bring your jpg file to the store, all they do is print your jpegs the usual way that they print other jpeg files that other clients give them for printing. I usually just submit my digital files online then have the photos mailed to me or I pick them up if there's a store branch near me. Then cut the photos yourself.

There are a lot of How-Tos online on how to create your own 2 x 2 photos (on 4 x 6 photo paper).

If Walgreens cannot do this for you - AND if you are not comfortable doing it yourself then you should seek out another provider. There is a national chain store called Wolf Camera that might be able to do this for you.

If not consider seeking out the services of a local (independent) photographer. You can contact different photographers in your area to see what they say, but likely one or more of them will be able to do what you need.

Photographers who have experience taking pictures of High School Seniors will have lots of experience editing photos for Yearbook size, Wallet size and even Passport size photographs.
