Hello fellow VJers. Our visa was approved last Thursday. We were the very last interview for the Resident Visa section. Boy was it insane. We had two interviews by to different people. I was interviewed in both english and spanish. Thank God everything went well and we were approved.

Our winning pieces of evidence was when the Consular asked to look and my wifes wedding band to see if my name was engraved on it. It was and it had our wedding date on it. Our visa was approved. I wish the best of luck to everyone, and would advice never to give up, this was my 4th interview. Very tough and painful road, but everything pays off in the end.

Congrats!

One question, if you don't mind me asking: Are you the petitioner and, if so, do you speak Spanish fluently? I will attend my fiancee's interview in Bogotá and don't even know if they'll want to talk to me but, if they do, I really hope they won't want Spanish! My fiancee and I only speak and write to each other in Spanish but I'm sure I sound like an uneducated buffoon. It terrifies me to have to speak Spanish with anyone but her...

Well in my case, I translated our Documents so they knew for a fact that I knew spanish. If you go with your fiance, you will get interviewed. Make sure you guys know your stuff, please!

On another note, My wife just got her visa delivered from Domesa. Took 3 Business Days. Thank god.

Don't worry, the CO can speak both languages and you can tell him/her you feel more comfortable speaking in English rather than Spanish.

Thanks!

And, congrats on having the visa in hand! 3 days isn't bad at all!

I shouldn't say I'd be terrified. I do know a good bit of Spanish and do fine even while out and about solo in Bogotá but the interview will be far more important than ordering lunch or buying a Transmilenio pass. I definitely prefer 110% English in this case! My fiancée tolerates my incorrect verb tenses, inability to account for noun gender and the occasional made-up word but I'm not so sure the CO would!

Well Just saying, but If any CO would angry at you for speaking Spanish incorrectly they would have to be huge hipocrits. Some of those people sound horrible speaking spanish.

Congratulations on finally finishing what seems from your timeline to be a rougher journey than most of us tend to have here.

Do you mind my asking, for the possible benefit of others, if you have any ideas on why they gave you guys such grief?... :help:

Our Adjustment of Status interview was only in Spanish, and I got yelled at for asking the Interviewer (in Spanish) to repeat what he had said. :bonk: Talk about a crash-course in Spanish for me.
