I am going to buy my wife a memory foam pillow because Vietnamese pillow sucks (they are small and lack support for the neck).

Just remember that most of the stuff over here, they have over in Vietnam. The quality and authenticity, however, is questionable.

I brought stuff like M&Ms, chewing gum, clothing, soaps, shampoos, toothpastes, little toys for the kids, multivitamins. The majority was clothes and candy.

I bought 8 used phone from Ebay. Do you think it would be a problem getting through those security scanner? I probably need to give $5-$10 coffee money.

I'd keep as much valuable things on my person as possible. The more electronics, jewelry, etc they see in the bag scan the more likely they'll hassle you, especially if you are Vietnamese.

I dunno about fitting 8 phones in my pockets though

That is why I am planning to do. I am going to put 8 phone in my jacket. Hopefully, people don't think it is weird to carry a jacket when it is hot outside (especially Saigon).

You have to take everything out of the pockets at the last scan before the door in HCMC... not the case in HaNoi, no extra scan... 8 cell phones can = a huge duty if the wrong person is working the scanner... Jerome got hit with a duty on one trip... some others have been lucky... keep in mind that there is a 40% duty on electronics and 10% vat = 50% of the value... and they will decide the value of what you have... unless you have a receipt which they can ignore... having 2 phones can be explained.. having 8+ is importing and one could have a problem if they were not declared on the customs form...

I actually bring back alot of coffee every time I come back because the VN roasing is different that the roasted coffee here... as well the beans from VN have a better flavor IMO...

Have to say that I love VN coffee better than what I have had here. I also take a couple of bags of vinecafe with me when I come out on the road.

My wife can't stand the american ground coffee we have here. She says it has very little coffee smell. She gets a brand at the VN market we go to. She is a snob.

I just bought a nice pair speaker but I just realized that it only supported 120V-60Hz. It is probably would burn if I plug it into Vietnam's electric current. So, don't be like me. Make sure that the electronic you buy support Vietnamese electric current too
