How soon can I work?

Hello,

Can anyone please tell me how soon can you start working in US. I will be coming CR1, so when can anyone on CR1 can start to work?

Are there any formalities that needs to be completed after I land there, that has to be completed, before I can start working?

Technically, you can work the day you arrive on a CR-1. Realistically, most employers will want to see a SSN, which takes 2-3 weeks to get.

On that topic, if you are a conditional permanent resident, are you allowed to set up a business or do you have to wait until you have your conditions removed?

My husband and I are planning to start our own business once we move over to the States (and register it as a husband-wife business). But if I'm required to be an unconditional permanent resident before I can be a business owner, then I guess we'll have to think of something else (e.g. him employing me until I become unconditional? ).

On owning the business, as far as I know you can own the business, you are permanent resident in terms of your status.

Thanks for that! That's what I thought but no matter which official US sites I've looked into, it's not even mentioned anywhere...
