Gov't says abuse of prescription meds skyrocketing

WASHINGTON — A new government study finds a 400 percent increase in the number of people admitted to treatment for abusing prescription pain medication.

The increase in substance abuse among people ages 12 and older was recorded during the 10-year-period from 1998 to 2008. It spans every gender, race, ethnicity, education and employment level, and all regions of the country.

The study was released Thursday by Gil Kerlikowske (kur-lih-KOW'-skee), director of the White House office of drug control policy. Kerlikowske says prescription drug abuse is now the second-most prevalent form of illicit drug use in the country, and the nation's fastest-growing drug problem.

I am all for government. A government that recognizes free of choice of the individual.

Seems like that keeps disappearing little by little though. Be it if you dare show your face out of your home, and worse even in your home as well.

The government should not be there to protect us from ourselves. It should be there to protect us from itself and from bad business practices, corruption, etc. It should be there to protect our borders and our nation from all enemies who would dare to do us harm. It should be there to loan temporary assitance, but never permanent assistance to those who might need it. It should be there to make sure that aspects of itself are responsible in the way they spend the people's money in which they have collected.

Government should control medicine in terms of despensing only the right dosage to the right people. You shouldn't be able to walk up and buy morphine for no reason. Oh shut up. Brown people, Black people, etc. aren't special. Policians put this mask on as if everyone is racist against people of another race and white America hates the rest of America. Not the case at all. There's always a few bad apples and they give everyone else a bad name, but it's very rare. Same thing goes with the ignorant people who think all black people are lazy. The vast majority live normal every day lives like anyone else out there, despite the rhetoric.

I've been "randomly" searched on multiple occasions actually. It's a luck of the draw sort of thing. It's annoying, but yeah I'm white and OMG I was searched too. Is it inconvenient, yeah it is. I personally don't like it, but whatever. It's done to everyone, so stop with the race baiting BS.

Apart from rhetorical government is bad, I have seen little evidence of it. On the other hand, one way or another, I see various unethical private businesses or corporations screwing over people daily. I just read an article on debt collectors in the US, these same practices such as personal threats or calling people's relatives or work are grounds for criminal charges for the individual employee and record fines for the organization abroad. Not in good old US of A of course, it's just business.

On the other hand, one way or another, I see various unethical private businesses or corporations screwing over people daily. I just read an article on debt collectors in the US, these same practices such as personal threats or calling people's relatives or work are grounds for criminal charges for the individual employee and record fines for the organization abroad. It's the same nannystate mentality of no marijuana, no small-time drugs, etc. OMG we don't want you to have them, so you cannot. Hell, I'm surprised they still let us have aspirin anymroe sometimes.

As far as debt collection practices go, we actually have strict laws on what those agencies are allowed to do. Many of them hide though and break the law all the time. There was a recent lawsuit against one of them where someone won millions of dollars because of the collection practices. --- As you can read from my post, I said the government should protect us from bad business practices, but you probably ignored that part...
