My kids are a pair of wasters and always were and always will be.

In the USA, everyone's kids are wonderful and have white teeth and they are all top of the class and nobody would dream of saying their kids were wasters but I see plenty here so it's all a smokescreen.

They are poor and always will be:

Examples: Son works in Tenerife and is always broke. I have supported his business for years and he never puts money away. If he makes a thousand in a week then he will party til it's gone. Then he spends the next week talking suicide because he is broke.

I am pretty rich really and I wash my car by hand to save money and do a good job and to take exercise.

He can't sleep because he is broke and despairing - but today he took his car to the car wash and it ripped his wipers off. He has no work, lots of time and he is massively over weight from boozing and gorging so needs exercise - and yet he pays the car wash ??

I gave him GBP 1k last month as he was suicidal through worry over bills. He took all his friends to the pub and then bought his mother a necklace. (my ex who hates me)

My daughter uses only cell phones at many times the cost of a landline and blew GBP 3k on a settee when her kids were tiny. It was wrecked in weeks. When I left for the US I gave her all my stuff. It's all either wrecked or sold for pennies or thrown on the tip. My professional aluminum house ladders were thrown on the tip.

I have always voted socialist but I am thinking that there is no helping these people.

I came from a council house and zero money but I tried - and I got a grant to go to college and become a professional - I got a hand up from public funds and that's why I believe in giving people a hand up. But it seems that only a tiny percentage are capable of accepting that help and acting right in the head.

The poor are always with us but it sure isn't the fault of us who are not poor. We try everything to get em on their feet but they are just stupid and can't see past 24 hours into the future.

I know that my two wasters are more typical than atypical.

When there's a promise that you'll always be taken care of in one way or another, there's no incentive to really save...

It's true - you can make $200k a year or $20k a year and yet you're still poor if you don't manage your money well. That's part of the problem we saw with the housing crisis in the states here. Too many people buying $400k homes when they could only afford a $200k home in reality. Sure, they made enough money to pay for it, but not enough to save up extra to make sure they had a nice nest egg aside in case of loss of employment, etc. They could have been just fine in a $200k house and saved money, but the idea of bigger and better sometimes overtakes us as human beings I think, especially when society is more about status than what is overall right for ourselves and our families.

There are plenty of responsible people out there though, but it's those people who suffer at the hands of those who aren't.

He didn't get good luck so he concluded he needed more - now he has 5 jars at £75 each.

The crystal meth tribe go at it like rabbits in their trailers until the trailers are bursting with kids.

I know it sounds nazi to say that - and all I can say in my defence is that I don't propose to euthanise em and I mean no harm to them because they are harming themselves more than anyone else could. But what is the future when evolution is running in reverse ?

yeah I see that out east too. the media keeps telling me people are moving outta here to the sun belt but all I see are more condos and more cars and parking lots that fill up earlier and earlier every passing year. #######.

No offense to you, Alan, but in general, I feel it is up to parents to teach the right/wrong way to approach life. I am not saying you skipped this, but in general, it does seem to be sorely lacking these days. My parents instilled a strong work ethic in me, but I see a lot of people whose parents failed to make them finish projects and work when they weren't going to school. I don't think that helps them in the long run, these people (who aren't kids anymore) seem unable to commit to employment, and tends to feel their employers are unreasonable in their demands for punctuality, attention to detail, etc. etc.
