which one is better for a proof (leasing or buying a car )

Hello, we would like to get a new car. In one year, I will need to apply for removing the condition for my green card. We were wondering if we lease a car with both our names on it, would it be good to be one of the proofs. Or it is better just get the loan to buy a car? Does it make difference? We prefer leasing a new car, but if buying a car is better for a proof, we would buy a car. Thank you for your time!

I doubt it makes a difference as long as both names show on the documents which is what USCIS is looking for...

All they (uscis) want to see is joint ownership. They don't care how you get it. They just want to see you JOINTLY in debt

Leasing a car is one of the dumbest things anyone can do. Buying a new car is not nearly as dumb but pretty dumb nonetheless.

I now own real estate worth close to a million dollars now, but I have never owned a new car in my life. Before you buy or lease a new car, spend ten bucks on the book: The Millionaire next door (ISBN 0-671-77530-8).

It might change you life.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Bob is spot on here: Leasing is the BIGGEST ripoff deals in the car biz!

Very true. You return the car at the end of the lease and they re-sell it and make more money and you end up with nothing. Nothing wrong with certified pre-owned.

Guys - the OP was asking about which is better (if any) to appear on his evidence list and not if a purchase is better than a lease. Stay on subject :P

Either will carry the same weight. But economically, it would be wise to buy, as leasing is simply a waste of money. There is no logic in paying 50,000 for a car that you can buy for 1/4 the price 2 years later, and that too in mint condition. But, I am sure you have other proof being attached to your file. Usually, more weightage is given to joint immovable assets, jointly filed taxes, having children, or life insurance policies.
