Traveling after I-130

Hello, I've been reading this forum for a while and decided to post and ask for advice and thoughts.

I'm about to take an Oath Ceremony this 23rd of June, and then I plan to get a US passport in the Regional Office. After that, I will be submitting my I-130 petition for my wife who is currently in the Philippines. I already have a plane ticket and will leave on the 2nd week of July. Is it okay to travel while the I-130 is being processed and for how long can I stay? I've been apart from my wife for almost a year now.

Congrats!!!! Of course you can travel to the PI while the I-130 application is pending. How long you can stay depends mostly on how long you are allowed to stay in the PI as a tourist. Have a good oath ceremony and a safe trip after!

Best of luck on your journey!

Thank you! I plan on staying as long as I can since I'm a former Philippine citizen, I will be processing my dual citizen (or should I?). Will there be a problem if I stay too long? (6 months to 1 year).

I can't help you in terms of how long you can stay in the PI, but I hope you have not gotten you ticket yet.

Once you finish the Oath ceremony you have to go to your local post office and apply for the U.S. Passport and do a little interview which sometime you will be given a appointment for and may have to come back at a later date. Than you have to wait for the passport to arrive and that could take anywhere between 2 to 6 weeks so you will be cutting it really close.

I already have purchased the airplane tickets :(

I read in the travel.gov website that you get an appointment and visit a Regional Passport Agency and then they will issue you a passport same day if you need to travel within 2 weeks.

I've been thinking to do this also but it might be risky also at the same time, so I will be playing it safe and just go to the Regional Agency in Miami.

I would like to do a follow up post.

After filing I-130 for my wife and then flying back to the Philippines, can we do all the process while not in the US? (with the help of my family in the US) Examples like submitting requirements, taking care of the mail for me, etc. I want to stay in the Philippines until my wife gets her IR1 visa thats why. Any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated.
