Anyone see the nightly news on this incident?

The best thing the United States can do is build an Israeli style wall. Since the Mexican government is 'so concerned' [cough cough Bullshit], they should be part of this construction. Their contribution can be the labor.

You still going on about building a useless wall?

Evidently had there been a wall, this situation would have been avoided.

On one had you want to fine the employers and restrict employment, yet on the other you are apprehensive on how they go about doing so. Furthermore, American history illustrates that many will cry murder and claim their idiotic rights are being violated or Hispanic businesses are being targeted. The media will then get a kick out of this and show that whole thing as being unAmerican and groups will rise and claim this is against something from the 1800s.

As such, a multifaceted and comprehensive approach against illegal aliens is an absolute must; which includes building a wall. I may be a new immigrant but learned quick-smart how things roll here.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

BY, putting up a wall is a rudimentary fix at best. You need to address the root of the problem first. Only then would a wall have any real effect.

So you're saying the US needs to declare war on Mexico and Central/South America?

I understand that but it should be part of any comprehensive strategy. A fence will do little on its on, yet a fence with a range of other measures will work. Without profiling in any way, it has to become impossible to function illegally in this country. Bye bye illegal alien oriented crime and hello improved prosperity for Americans.

UAV should definitely be sent out to take care of Drug plantations.

The fact is it's about time Mexico live up to their responsibility and improve their living standards and conditions for their citizen. It's not the United States responsibility to look out for Mexican citizens.

The American government then needs to live up to it's responsibility and stop pussyfooting around with this issue. Begin with financially punishing people into oblivion for employing illegal aliens. The country is suffering the worst recession since the depression and the leaders still refuse to take steps to ensure Americans are given priority regarding employment. Even the Mexican government should rightfully laugh at that and thing what a bunch of Yankee idiots.

Yes, sir, it does! Congrats by the way...

You are alright in my book, I agree with your views.

I appreciate that. I hate that the lines are so deeply drawn, that people can't address the larger issue of illegal immigration (a real problem that causes problems for EVERYONE, even those who aren't in the country yet) without offending people who have their own axes to grind. I'm obviously a fan of all that immigration can bring (on the upside) to this country, and I wish that it were possible to assume all illegals would have been legal if it were easier (for her case, she filed a DOL case prior to April 2001, and it's STILL in process, so she's sort of in limbo... By the time she was ready to give up waiting, we were ready to make ourselves official... Why should ANYTHING take 8+ years to process? We're not talking about decrypting the human genome, or exploring the deepest recesses of the atom - this is a pencil pusher sliding a piece of paper from one side of the desk to the other... no excuse for it taking so long!)

As it relates to the current situation that seems to have spawned this thread, if it turns out that the US Border Patrol responded inappropriately, I hope they are subject to due legal process. If it turns out that that they shot a known smuggler who was throwing rocks at them, well, then I guess the lesson is "don't be a known smuggler and also throw rocks at the border patrol". I don't see it as a NAZI (not sure why saywhat always capitalizes that) move, necessarily, or a killing meant to serve as an example to anyone, unless that example is "don't break the law or antagonize border patrol, or the people authorized to use lethal force may do so".

I'm not trying to diminish the importance of that particular individual, but it's a very prickly thing. If that person were breaking another law, like strangling an old lady who was trying to cross the street, would people see it differently? Would it even make the news, or solicit different points of view? I have to admit, I don't care at all for the current tone of the conversation, in which we're all expected to take the side of the illegal immigrant, since it's the "decent" thing to do. Again, if it turns out that the CBP agent was out of line (i.e., there was no legitimate threat to his/her well-being, or the suspect was responding appropriately to verbal orders), then they should be dealt with according to our laws (i.e. homicide, murder, etc). If there is sufficient evidence to support their actions, then let this serve as an example to other would-be illegal border crossers that our border patrol takes their responsibilities very seriously.

Tell her I have a CZ rifle made in BRNO and I have been buying em since 1966 - they are the dog's bollocks and hooray that the swear software isn't Brit

I'll pass that along. She's fiercely proud of anything Czech, including the meat grinder I use to make German-style sausages (I suspect she's secretly conflicted over that). Oddly enough, she lived in England for 2 years before going home for 3 weeks, then coming here, so she's got some bizarre multi-cultural slang, which makes life fun. A "trunk" is still a "boot" even though an "elevator" isn't a "lift". I honestly never know when I'll run into English slang, but curse words are always a good bet (maybe since that was her first non-classroom English experience).

Walls haven't have much success throughout history. Eventually they all come tumbling down. Ask Joshua.

The walls back then were used to keep foreign armies out or people in. This wall is to keep individuals out, who clearly don't grasp, not their country. Precast reinforced concrete is actually very strong. Furthermore, is working extremely well for Israel and they have rockets fired at it. Now combine that with modern technology and you pretty much have an impenetrable border.

Good luck trying to pass this:

Walls don't solve the problem.
