I have a silly vent.. when I saw my parents a few weeks ago I gave them a bag of gifts, for them, my sibs, SIL and my nephew... and the only people who have thanked me is my parents and one of my brothers ... I took the time to pick out something for each of them that I thought they would like.. :P

yeah, just to clarify I gave the gifts to my parents to bring back to Canada.. I am sure if I had given them to them face to face they would have thanked me... but I still think it is rude to get a gift no matter how you get it and not thank the person... and it is funny because the one brother who did thank me was the one i would least expect too ..lol

Thank you again to everyone for you kind words. It is much appreciated.

I have a rant related to his passing. I went to my dad's work to chat with him (we live with him & his wife and her children for the time being, but we try to stick to our part of the house for privacy) about his passing - it was my mom's dad, not his. And one of his coworkers, who is new (it's only my second time seeing her) is attached to my dad's hip. I presume she likes him, but who knows. Anyway, I go into his office and they're talking. They finish up and dad turns to me and we start talking about it, and this new coworker just sits there!! I mean, we were having what I consider a private conversation about my grandfather's passing, and she just sits there and trys to include herself in the conversation! I thought it was so rude!!

And another rant: my family & I left the hospital because things were looking okay with my grandpa at the time and we all went for dinner together. While we were leaving the restaurant, we got the call that things were going downhill and we should probably head back to the hospital. Everyone was worried, and my aunt said "He might already be dead and that's their way of getting us back to the hospital," and my mom (the baby of the family) couldn't walk and started shaking and was sobbing uncontrolably because of that comment. I was absolutely livid. I couldn't believe she said that! Especially about her own father! I understand that, yes, that may be a tactic used. However, it's not sometime you say out loud IMO. /rant

@ Kayleigh+Kyle

It sounds like in both situations, the co-worker and aunt certainly did not handle those respective situations in the best fashion possible. I do not know if the co-worker was attempting to interact in order to offer sympathy, nor do I have any clue on how this co-worker was raised. I hope that the co-worker was respectful of the situation - general politeness I mean - since they did not remove themselves from the area and conversation. As for your aunt, I do agree that the comment made shouldn't be one said aloud. Even if more than one person may be thinking it.

I hope that, aside from these two situations, you and your family have been doing as well as possible given the event that has transpired. (F)

@ Marilyn.

Well, now you know who you should continue to buy gifts for, and whom you should skip over! I'm kidding. :) Perhaps your other relatives have been rather busy and have not yet "managed" to call? If you've not heard from them since you gave those gifts to your parents (and the gifts were subsequently delivered), you could give them all a call to see how they are doing, if the gifts arrived safely, and if they liked them? Kind of like a gentle reminder that the (more than likely) nifty things you got them were gifts given by you, not like they materialized out of thin air or anything.

You know, I've read a lot from others coming into the States and having issues adjusting, but there's something that I'm not understanding when it comes to my personal situation....

Why is it that I, the American, am having a harder time adjusting than he is??? He seems to be settling in just fine, whereas I'm a complete basket case and feel like crying all the time and have been since we got home? I feel really unstable about every aspect of my life (not just with him) and I think it's actually starting to irritate him. :( Is this normal? Any other US citizens feel this way??

She was respectful enough, but it was awkward. I know if I had been in her shoes, I would have left, giving that it was a personal conversation between a father and daughter about a passing relative.

Frenzyheart, try not to be to hard on yourself all the work of getting to this point could of just hit you. Anyways I don't think you are the only American who is adjusting, just try not to let it take over your every though. You are still very much the same person. :star:

Not exactly a vent ... well, okay a minor one. I am currently on holiday in BC. Most of the time, we are spending time with my husband's family, just kicking back and relaxing at their place. Yesterday, we planned an actual outing ... to Tofino for the day. I was so excited because I have never been there. Well, first thing in the morning, I got a phone call offering me a job I had interviewed for before I left (see why it is not really a vent). It is exciting to have the offer, but I spent the entire car ride to Tofino mulling the decision over in my head and I wasn't able to let go of it to enjoy the scenery. Still being driven crazy by this decision .... stay in my current job where I love my coworkers and clients, or take the new job with more pay, better benefits and an interesting new job working with veterans. AAAAH! BTW, I am pretty sure I am going with the new job, it's just the idea of saying goodbye to all my clients is really hard.

so I have been trying to find a pair of swim trunks for the hubster.. I looked at Walamrt and couldn't find any and was told they went on clearance.. umm, it is the middle of August in Los Angles, I am sure people still want to buy swimwear .. I looked at Kmart and they did have some there but all the ones that he would wear were the wrong colour or size... grrr... I did look online and they did have some there but the shipping was almost as much as the trunks :P...

I am going to check out Ross and Marshall's today
