oven has to be preheated!

I just chuck them in and go look after 10-15 min. I'm not really timing my cooking.

I would say, check every 5 minutes, puff pastry doesn't take long to burn.

Do not open the oven while you bake something with puff pastry, the layers could give in ans then you would have just a dough thingy instead of flaky.

for better taste: use normal bacon instead of the precooked stuff: cut bacon in small pieces, heat in non-stick pan until crunchy, but not too brown, put on paper towels in a bowl, drain, use grease to brown the onions, drain them as well

I had some really bad tartar sauce the other week. Whoever made it must have just dumped the capers in without draining them first because it tasted like the brine
