My fiancee is coming to the US on June 30. We are getting married on July 10. Do we need to apply for a SSC/SSN before doing the AOS application (along with EAD)?

In the guide it says wait 2 weeks before doing the SSC application, if we do that we'll already be married and her name will have changed...Is that okay? Or does she need to get her original SSC with her maiden name on it and then change her name on her SSC?

And we want to do the AOS right after we're married. Is it okay to do the AOS even if she doesn't have a SSN yet?

This process seems so confusing. Please help out.

Thanks

It's fine to do AOS without the SSN.

It's significantly easier (from everything I've read) to first obtain the SSN in the maiden name and then change to married name.

I personally have my SSN in my maiden name and filed AOS in my married name but wrote that SSN. I can't work without the EAD or GC anyway so I decided to just wait until I have one of those before I try changing my name because the issue with married name is it doesn't match immigration records.

Hope that makes sense. In short - don't need it for AOS, don't need it to get married. Get it in maiden name first just so you have no problems and make sure you apply before it gets to 14 days before the I-94 expires (they won't let you apply then).

Good luck :D
