I love this site, so very helpful. I love seeing people who used this site years ago, are now in the USA and they keep coming back to help the new people. Everyone who has ever answered my posts have been very gracious, even though Im sure it had been asked 100 times before.

My question is ... is there a ... Going To Canada immigration site like this one ? If yes, could someone link it for me ?

Thank you !!!

VJ is a great community - that's for sure.

Not sure about a going-to-Canada site but I'll bet the answer can be found in the Canadian Forum.

Not that I saw ... mostly just about the consulates and proceedures.

I have a friend that has fallen for a man from Mexico, and she wants to bring him to Canada. I just figured with all the help here that someone would know another site where she can get some information. Shes looking to a lawyer, they already had one, and the lawyer has messed up already... go figure.

Probably the best one out there, the only one anyone here ever links to.

Bluebonnet, Canadian immigration is not that hard and the Canada immigration website is just full of clear, concise info.

Oh and one thing - there is no 'fiance' visa for Canada - if she wants him to immigrate they will have to get married.

I gave her the link to Canadian immigration, aswell as the 24 hour phone number. What I was looking for for her was a support site, with some people who have gone through the process already.

Her problem starts with the fact that they hired a lawyer, who sent paperwork to Mexico ... as though that was where her SO was but he wasnt there, he was in Canada with her ... and so the legal nightmare begins.

Yep, that's what I used as well, and IMO it's much better than roadtocanada (simply b/c it's more active).

While it's technically true that there's no fiance visa, Canada appears to honor common-law marriages, as I believe that's how my friend Ilana brought her boyfriend Dan to Canada; he's already done POE and they're moving from NYC to Toronto June 1. They are neither married nor engaged.

True that they do, but from the little bluebonnet said, it doesn't sound like they live together and she never said anything about her friend living in Mexico - pretty hard to claim common law if you aren't/never have been living together.

Plus I doubt the friend would have had the foresight to file taxes as married etc.

Anyway, that's the way I read it.

Excellent points -- I'm not sure my friends filed taxes as married (not sure how common law works in NJ where they used to go to school, but I know NY does not let you become common law married there), but they've been living together for years.
