Does anyone know how far the embassy goes back in determining financial support. I now make $42,000 per year and I started this job Feb, 1st. Last year though I only made $9000. She has her interview in a month. What do you guys think?

Get your pay stubs from work as many as you can to show your increase in pay. A letter from HR from your work stating how much you make per year, how long you have worked there, your position. A letter from your bank stating how much you have in your account. Your last years tax returns will show your 9000 income so you have to prove that you make more than that now with the previous proof stated above. If you can't do that then a co sponsor is necessary. :)

It’s your most ‘current income’ that counts, and is what USEM looks at. Your current pay stubs will reflect your $42,000 income.

Initially when the I-134 is needed you are not required to supply the 2009 Tax transcripts or return. later you will for AOS. Look at I-134 instructions for what is needed in the K-1 interview.

Self-employed state the income from line 22 of the 1040, so you'll be using tax return(s) not pay stubs as evidence of income.

Fiancé(e)s (K-1), spouses (K-3), returning residents (SB-1) and follow-to-join employment (E) applicants use the I-134 Affidavit of Support form. This form must be executed less than one year prior to the visa application. A copy of the sponsor’s most recent Federal income tax returns and evidence of current employment must accompany the I-134.

This is what I found from the Manila embassy website but I don't know if it's set in stone.

Asking for a tax return doesn't mean the income shown is the qualifier. Current income is the key.

Thanks so much!! What about his Vaccination's, he can't find them in Antigua. Do you think he should fly to Barbados now for them or wait until his interview?

Thanks Cheryl

Well, I am no expert but I would make sure you have the 2009 one...better to have the tax transcripts. That is what the I-134 instructions say. Msybe also good to have 2007 and 2008 just in case.

Actually it depends on the CO., my fiance wrote off his loss in his business in his 2009 income tax. The consul said his income tax the previous years doesn't matter. What matters was the 2009 tax return.

If you are self-employed, and making what you claim, then you should be filing quarterly tax payments with the IRS. I would include copies of the latest along with your other "proof" of income. This is probably the best "outside" evidence that you could show to back up your income claims. It will be your responsibility to convince the CO at the Manila embassy that you meet the income requirements to sponsor a K-1 beneficiary.

Good luck & Ingats!

[edited - i typed unemployed instead of self-employed - lol]
