Asking for CV is very common in Family visa given the applicant has degree on technical field. It is kind of an extended background check, where they make sure you haven't worked for an organization which might be related to any terrorist groups or any sort of things. I have seen at least 1 case from India (bio or nuclear chemist) and 1 from Canada who were asked to submit CV.

Not sure about how long it took for the Indian one to get his VISA back after he submitted his CV but with the Canadian one I think it took around 3-4 weeks time. Anyways there isn't anything to worry about, Consulate is just trying to make sure they cover up all the bases, so submit your CV and it will be a few more weeks time before you hear something.

Ah - may be that NO MANTIS check was performed , prior to interview day, and now the USEM is requesting a MANTIS check.

see http://www.usaimmigrationattorney.com/SecurityNameChecksAndAdministrativeReview.html

but - a CV isn't 'the thing needed' to start a MANTIS check, IMO.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

and now the USEM is requesting a MANTIS check.

Except that this isn't "the USEM" (i.e. US Embassy Manila) -- this is London asking.

(Sorry, I sometimes find it difficult to rein in my pedantry, and the continuing misuse of "USEM" as shorthand for any US consulate and not just those based in a city beginning with "M" drives me round the bend.)

(As you were.)

USEM is official shorthand for US Embassy. You SEE that a lot in the PI forum, so I can understand the confusion.

No, I'm afraid you are incorrect. It began as shorthand for Manila, and was used in that exclusive sense for quite a while on VJ. It is only in the past 18-24 months that its extrapolation to other consulates has spread.

ETA: I have this on the authority of VJers of much longer-standing than me. I don't wish to be a b!tch about this, but I have been on a little longer than even you. ;)

Addgelcat,

Same thing happened to my husband.

Please read below.

My husband's interview was on February 14, 2011 at Chennai India.

The interviewing Officer was nice lady and she asked few basic questions about his wife.

Then she asked about my husband's stay in South Korea, to which my husband replied about his education in South Korea.

He did his MS and research in south korea.

Then she asked what he pplans to do in th US to which my husband replied, seeking job or continue research in the filed of Material Science and Engineering.

She said, 'I dont see any problem with you application, your application is accepted and you will receive you visa in a week'.

He was so happy only to get an email today (2/16/2011) from Chennai consulate saying his visa is under administrative processing.

They sent him a list of questions mostly regarding his research papers and if any organization is sponsoring him, letter from his sponsor etc.

the email also says it would take 2-4 weeks for AP to finish.

We are sooo depressed. Did anyone have such an experience???

Its been 2 years since we got married and staying apart.

How did they resolve yours and how long did it take?

Can you please shed some light? We are tooo upset.

Hi all,

i had my CR-1 visa interview on 14 may 2010, got finger printed and the counslar officer returned my original birth certificate and original marriage certificate. She asked me to sign DS 230-part 2 in front of her. Then she asked where in US my wife lives. Then she asked when i planned to move to US, to which I answered as soon they give me visa, i shall make my travel plan. Then she asked me what I am gonna do in US? to which I told I would be seeking role in mechanical engineering industry. She asked whether I had my CV, I told her I didnot have it with me right now. (They never told me to bring a CV to visa interview!) Then the counslar officer gave me a blue letter saying i am put in Administrative processing and Asked me to FAX my CV to a number she wrote on back of this blue letter. But she kept my passport.

HUH...... so guys any Idea what the hell should I take from this?? I am so sad now as I knew people are put in AP but being in AP myself feels so bad.

what should I do now or how long should i wait and what could happen next and when?? anyone with any ideas please help..

I believe the AP has to do with TAL check,Technology Alert List this is for electronic engineers, they ask for a CV from Engineers, and run AP for it, nothing to worry about, it is standard process for engineers
