I've been teaching Vicky to drive for 3-4 weeks now, started on the back roads where there's very little traffic and now she's driven on 4 lane highways at 65 mph a couple of times, and parking and backing out of parking spots (still needs a bit more practice on that one lol). Her main problem blocking her from being a really good driver is she gets nervous, and it's hard to concentrate or be good at it when you're too nervous.

But, she's learning and for the most part doing really well.

Hopefully she's ready for her test soon, because her EAD just got approved.

Correct! Keep on practicing that’s the way to gain confidence and when you are behind the wheel don't be nervous take deep breaths. Let your left foot relax just let it rest on the floor and use your right foot to maneuver the gas and brake pedals.

Here’s a link that I find helpful for those who are still learning how to drive.

Been there, done that.

Just got my driver's permit month ago (one month tomorrow to be exact), my husband is teaching me how to drive (been three times) since and so far I can drive the turnpike(s) already. In fact, I enjoyed driving in the highways than driving in the small roads. Lol! I still need to practice way more though to make it perfect and for me to be ready for the road "parallel" test.laughing.gifwhistling.gif

Good luck to all of us!

LESSON: Never brag too much specially if you've been observing the kind of Traffic rules we have in the Philippines!

Know the difference between an ambulance and a police car -- according to my husband :bonk:

Hahahaha!... That's why husband said that its good that I learned my driving skills here so I wouldn't be use of traffic rules in the Philippines. Driving here isn't so much about controlling the car, it's about the rules of the road. In the Philippines, even though the light is red as long the driver's didn't see any car coming from other direction, they go.

Anyway, you are still lucky that you didn't have the ticket.

Congratulations, you did a good job in your driving lessons, I remember you posted in my topics about driving . I hope soon I can get mine too, planning to have road test few weeks from now I`m just mastering my parallel parking ang backing....! Thanks for sharing your experience...!

Hi! Yeah, I remember you. Goodluck to your road test. I may suggest to learn the uphill and downhill parking, it might be part of your test. Here in IL, though its not necessary, they have simulate the downhill parking.

My husband was so amazed when we were in the Philippines and I was driving. He said that there are no rules there and its so hard to drive (f0r him). Actually I find it harder to drive here because of all the signs and rules you have to follow like the lane change, yield, stop (you really have to stop if its a stop sign..it doesn't matter if there's no one at the intersection)..LOL. Believe it or not, I'm more nervous to drive here than in the Philippines...and I don't know why. I would say that it's harder when you're used to driving there already. I guess it's true what they say that the traffic rules in the PI is just merely "suggestions"...no one really follows them there..LOL :bonk:

My fiancee also drives in Manila and is very good. As some others have said her hardest part of driving in USA will be stopping at the stop signs! I was driving in Manila one day and actually saw a stop sign. So i was telling her, "wow and actual stop sign" and as i was slowing down to stop, i nearly got rear-ended and the car zoomed by with no regard to the stop sign. She has had fun with me driving in Manila,,,, now it will be fun teaching her the rules of the road here.

It's a relief knowing that I'm not the only one experiencing a hard time following the traffic rules here in the US. I guess practicing the speech we will be using as alibi when we get pulled over will be superb at this time.. More driving and speaking practice! :bonk:
